Title: 68 drivers side dual exhaust riv nuts
Post by: Tx-Z 302 on September 15, 2017, 08:07:19 PM
My 68 "maybe" Z/28 has the dual exhaust rivnuts, but the upper location has the bolt/screw head broken off? Its small !   I've tried drilling it carefully with no luck I'm afraid my bit has already got into one side of the threads on the rivnut.   Not sure how to proceed?????  Help I know we should not cuss on here but holy @$×%%#$!×@€£₩&%

Replacements are available from AMK (P/N B-13373 (http://amkproducts.com/Catalog_PDF/56-73.pdf)) or you can get NOS 3818073 off of EBAY (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-GM-RivNut-Blind-Tub-Part-3818073-1967-1969-Camaro-Dual-Exhaust-Hanger-/332253825780?epid=6002441493&hash=item4d5bdf0af4:g:jwAAAOSwAPVZNwDr&vxp=mtr).

You should be able to chisel or drill it out without damaging the surrounding area, but be careful. Once it's out, just tap in the new one.

I had the same problem on my car. In addition to purchasing them through AMK, they can also be purchased through Heartbeat City (http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/23471/1967-1968-1969-Camaro-%26-Firebird-Dual-Exhaust-Hanger-LH-Frame-Rail-Riv-Nuts-GM%23-3818073/)

You might be able to tap the new one in but there is a special tool that I used to mushroom the nut in the frame rail. If you don't mushroom the insert, the rivnut will just spin when you try to tighten down the bolt used to attach the exhaust hanger. Amazon has a wide variety to choose from...
