My jack is not the original one. I saw that few places, like heartbeat Camaro are selling jack, with many available built dates.
My 69 RS is 9B. What would be the correct built date for the jack ? Any specifications of the dimensions and model type of the jack I should buy ?
Any comments are appreciated, as you guys are the best source of information and knowledge around !

A bud has an unrestored 9D (of 1968) and his jack is '8J', although it's a LOS car and so has the square mast. From my research, they're usually the same month as the anticipated TT build date, or no more than the previous month if built early in the new month. Probably due to the high number of jacks required.
That said, not so many data points available from cars that are known to definitely have their original jack, and it's always possible to see glitches in the 'norm'.

Unfortunately a lot of the pictures are now MIA due to Photobucket's revised TOS, but there's enough still on other hosting sites to see the differences.
And, I apologize, noted in that thread that my bud's LOS car is actually 9D on the TT, not 9B. Have edited earlier reply above.

Thanks ZLP, I already knew and check this thread. I'm just wondering if I order one from heartbeat Camaro with a date, 1 month or 2 before my built date, if it will be a Norwood or Los Angeles version ? Their picture are all the same for every months available....

I'm not taking about the repro sold by heartbeat, but the restored original ones.....at 600$ US each !

Wow. Personally I'd buy an undated reproduction jack kit from D&R ($124) and save the difference, most of the jack is hidden by the spare tire anyway.

I don't think you are going to get $600 worth of satisfaction out of that jack. Especially when you consider it is really just a show piece for our cars. ( and is hidden)
When was the last time an original jack was used to jack up a first gen?
There is no way i would trust mine to do anything, but look original in my trunk under my spare.

anyway, not too sure about what I'll do.....don't like very much the repro kit. Not sure either, where the one I already had with the car comes from, it doesn't look like the Camaro jack.
Someone can explain how it works with the date coded on the shaft ? If I think about our cars, the first number is the month, second is a letter for the week. For the jack, there's a number as well, but there's much more choice of letter.....
Per example, there's some for sale with a date of 9J, or 9H.....what does that mean ? My car is a 9B from Norwood.

Jacks are dated on the rivet (and not all of them are dated), and the format is year month (i.e. 9A would be January, 1969). They built tons of jacks every day so you'll need a September date.

It's an LM1, so probably within the first Camaro produced.....9B 1968, for a model year 69

As you can see, it is 33.5 inch long

So you are worried about a spectator walking around a car show waiting for you to open your trunk, and BAM he whips out his tape measure and catches you with the wrong jack? ;D
Or are you getting into some heavy judging? ???

Just curious about my current jack origin, that's all.
And (unfortunately) as a perfectionist, I'd really like to have the perfect part for my lovely car, that's it !
