Title: Original X33 trimtag?
Post by: 68 Ragtop on August 24, 2017, 06:37:41 PM
I saw this tag on a car for sale by a very well informed seller. It looks like a reproduction to me.

Opinions please?

I own a 12B X33 and I do see some differences.

I'm sure the experts will chime in.

I'd like the full VIN before I state an opinion.

I just thought the 6 and the 9 of ST69 looked different than mine.  But I haven't looked at them long enough to judge one way or the other.

Interesting. The lighting on your pic makes it look a little different than the ebay ad.
Hard for me to say it is a reproduction from the ebay pic. BUT I thought it was interesting it had the vin stamp by the filter for that early of a car, (* if that is the original block?)
Also the rear end dated 12 18 wouldn't that be past a 12B car? Wouldn't that be a thursday of the 3rd week (12C)?

Norwood vin stamps at the oil filter started around this time frame (Jerry's book needs updated)  My car came shortly after this one and the vin is at the oil filter.   Another Z block I've seen even earlier than mine with a 12/18 build date also has it's vin at the oil filter, as well as a 12/26 built DZ I've seen.  The one in question here has a 12/12 build date if I'm seeing that correctly, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the vin at the oil filter.

Auction has ended.  Might have sold outside Ebay?  Maybe no interest.  Asking a lot of money for a core.

I've seen stuff all over the place but a "real" Z in the $20k range that doesn't run, missing some parts,  and needs a complete restoration seems to be the norm.   I came across an RS Z a couple years back, missing engine but had a date correct DZ with the deal.  Otherwise solid AZ car, didn't run, needed complete restoration.  Guy wanted $25k for it.  It sold rather quickly.

What about that rear end date? isn't that to late for a 12B car?

I agree the axle is too late for that car.
Pad is OK, but still too late for that car - that's about when it shipped.
My opinion - I don't like that tag. Thanks James for the better pic.
