I have been reading some of JM reports over the years and noticed on some that it says firebird door handles on a certification of a Camaro. Could someone please post pic's and a description of the differences. I would like to learn how to distinguish between the two. Thanx.. Danny

Firebird deluxe handles have a full escutcheon (1st pic), Camaros have a two piece esccutheon (2nd pic). But the rubber part is the same.

JM is referring to the outside door handles.
GM service replacement door handles were noticeably thinner in the middle where they are grasped to pull the door open. OE handles were much thicker in this area.
I have no idea why he refers to them as Firebird handles.

Kevin, thanx for the info. And yes William is correct I was talking outside door handles. I am familiar with the much thinner center part of the grab on repro/service replacement handles. I thought there was some other noticeable difference in the shape. Thanx... D

The first 2 pics are from my 69 bird, original untouched and the last 2 pics from my Camaro, also original. I absolutely saw no difference in the exterior handles at all. I put them side-by-side and used calipers to measured every possible point.
I'm not sure what exactly has been written or read in any reports, but I can say that the exterior handles are spot on identical.

I don't know any reason why Firebird and Camaro outside door handles would differ. I certainly have not noticed anything different.
Darrell - thank you for the comparison pics.
