1967 Z/28’s had 1111266 distributors and apparently large batches were made as many early 68 Z/28’s have them including at least three CRG members (Randy, Paul, and myself). This is an effort to help establish how long into the 68 model year were 266’s used and when did 467’s start. According to a GM memo in Jerry’s book 266’s were to be exhausted before 467’s went into use. Did it happen? When did the 467 start to show up? Since the distributor was put in at the Flint engine plant please give the assembly date of your engine, 266 or 467 and date code of distributor. 12/21/67- Chick –has 266 dated 7A25 (NOR 01B)
12/21/67 Randy (Dutch) has 266 dated 7A25 (NOR 02C)
??/??/?? Paul (68RSZ28) has 266 dated 7A25 (LOS 02C-sent Paul PM for eng. build date)
05/23/68- Danny’s had 467 dated 8E03 (NOR 05E)

Great, but can you give when your engine was built if available. Reason being that is when distributor was put in. If not its still good information to have so thanks.

I really really wish I could. I have an original MO block with a April date , but its not original to the car.

Been a little busy with other things going on. Motor built If I remember correctly April 15th, but sorry didn't have original distributor in it. I had original 467 distributors with dates 8A5 8A10 and now I have 8B8 which is closer to my 04D build date. Now it looks like I guess all those dates would be OK for my car??

Yep, as next build of 467's was 8D23 from what info I have.

Chick - on the Yenko Supercar registry site you may want to check out a thread that Charlie Lillard started (68 Dana Z2/8) and go down to post #9 where he describes the distributor - you'll certainly love his comment fpr your '266 quest!

Sorry I cannot since it is not the original engine in the car.

Unfortunately Randy at this timeframe no consensus but good news, still on-going. There are three 68 Z/28's with our 266 dated 7A25 with one engine built 12/20/67 and our two MO engines both built the following day 12/21/67. We can add to that Paul's 02D LOS 68Z who stated back years ago his original 302 had the same 266 7A25 distributor but I've failed to reach him thru PM's here asking for when his engine was built. Bottom line, our distributor even though I'm confident its original to the car was deemed to be too early of a date code and subsequently not acceptable for Legends Judging. I have discussed with Jerry recently and the probe for information continues but at this time what happened, happened and there are changes coming to our cars judge sheet. Hopefully we can continue to obtain information for not just our time frame but a perspective for the entire 68 Z/28 model year. I supplied Jerry with what information we have currently and we will continue the search for information.

Everyone, keep the information coming for all 68 Z/28's! Trim tag LOS or NOR with date, engine built when and with what part# distributor and date code.
