It may be a real Z28. Yes, the engine's been restamped and the transmission isn't original (it's dated 9 months before the car was built), but the axle is BV0627G, a 4.10 posi ratio, and dated correctly for a 07E car, And since the 4.10 was only available on the Z28 and SS, there's a good possibility it's legit. It would have to be inspected by someone like Jerry to verify this, but even if it's not a Z28, it started out as an L48.

Ed, I agree. The old description said the engine block was decked and restamped. That person probably didn't know any better.
Timeframe is also good for there being a lot of high performance cars being built.

It very well could be a real Z/28. Its the fact that the engine was acknowledged in 2012 as having been "re-stamped" but is now being advertised as "Real deal, original engine" and absolutely no mention at all of the decking and re-stamping in the current ad that bothers me. Maybe the current owner honestly doesn't know and thinks it is as described. Maybe he got screwed... Its just another perfect example of how these re-stamps show up months or years later as legit.
With this engine being decked and restamped there is no way anyone will ever know if that is the "Real deal, original engine" or not.
And the asking price is almost double of the 2012 price. If someone doesn't do there due diligence and search the VIN, they will get stung!

Len, I agree with you and yes it's troubling. The restamped engine hurts it, but depending on if other things check out, it's not a total lost case. But the price would need to be adjusted down.

hmm in the orphans section there is a Z28 engine VIN 482289... it would be worth the effort to find out if the 8 is really an 8.

WTH happened to that trim tag, other than having been removed from the car. I know 68 tags don't give much info, and rarely get faked, but that edges have been cut off that one with shears (at least that is what it looks like) and it has definitely been off the firewall. Aftermarket rivet (the one you can see) and not installed correctly.
