Title: Repro fuel tank packaging?
Post by: Mike S on March 22, 2017, 09:32:43 PM
Anyone recently purchased a repro fuel tank? I'm looking at the Spectrum tanks but was wondering if they come packaged good enough so there are no dents/dings or scratches to not make it show car suitable.

Thanks,
Mike

I just bought one this winter. On e-bay there is an outfit out of Minn. The name escapes me at the moment.  They accidently sent one for an EFI conversion at first. I called and they sent the right one promptly.  Both the tanks had arrived in perfect shape. Great price and fast shipping.

You can buy a Spectra tank through Amazon with free shipping. Amazon has excellent return policies. I do not deal with anyone who does not take responsibility for shipping damage.

Spectra tanks come wrapped in saran wrap type material and then fit in a box. I think it might have had Styrofoam corners for protection also, but I can't remember positively. I can't say mine was perfect, but it was close. It also sat in the warehouse where I picked it up from for a year before I bought it according to the manufacturing date.

Amazon is the first place I look for nearly everything I purchase. Not always the cheapest but most times they do not disappoint the wallet.

x2
Bought one off Amazon and was very pleased with condition.  Paid $112.13 out the door w/tax and free shipping.  But anything can happen during shipping, why I'd want to be able to return it...just saying.

Always wanting to update a topic, I attached pictures of the Spectrum tank (bough from Amazon) that arrived in perfect shape with no dents or abrasion. The box is double walled .255" thick cardboard large enough for the tank to fit but not slide around to cause any shipping abrasion.
You can see the foam and clear wrapping surrounding the metal and the metal is covered by a thick waxy film.
The only thing I had to do was clean out the large amount of solder flux on the inside filler neck area.

  Thanks for the Amazon idea!

I got my Spectra (or Spectre?) from Rockauto.com for about $100.
Well packaged, no damage.

Bought one for my 68 last week from Tamraz Parts Warehouse (eBay) and it included free delivery in the US. Arrived in great condition with no issues. Total cost was $117 plus $43 for the 3/8 pickup which came installed in the tank.
