Title: Paint Color Question
Post by: KK302 on February 18, 2017, 09:19:14 PM
I have a 1969 Z-28 that will be going into the paint booth soon and wanted to confirm a few details. I'm assuming that the door and trunk hinges and all bolts should all be painted the same as the body color. And the same goes for the trunk lid catch (part that is attached to the trunk lid). And that the trunk lid striker/latch (part that the lock attaches to) should be left as bare metal. I think the finish is or should be silver zinc plating. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for your help.

You're pretty much correct, except that the latch assembly (mounted in the trunk) also got some body color overspray as well as the later trunk splatter paint...

It's a Norwood built car.

Thanks.

That is painted on a NOR car. Not painted on a LOS car.

That's good information. I didn't know there was a difference between the two plants. Thanks again for you help.

I didn't know that either.   What is the correct finish for the trunk lid catch for LA/VAN Camaro's?

My 67 LOS survivor catch is silver so it can be either bright zinc or cad plated. Not sure which of the two types.
The latch has trunk spatter over spray.

Mine is silver too, but can't be sure of the original finish. The keys were missing when I bought the car, so I had to reach through the trunk from the back seat and unbolt the catch plate with a long extension bit to open the trunk lid. Can't remember where it is now, must be a very safe place!
And as 'luck' would have it, the previous owner called me 2 days later to say he'd found the car keys hanging on a nail in his shop......

Review several of the cars in the "Original Cars and Details" section. Several pictures there clearly show how to paint your trunk area and probably some pics for your door hinge area. There are some great survivors there and worth the effort to review. Picture worth a 1000 words.

@Mike & Tim - Thanks for the info.  Mine's silver too, but ah, I think I ah painted it silver ;-)   I'll have to figure out how to correct this.
