OK guys. I've given up on that car as the owner just doesn't want to show it. I think he knows I'm on to him. I have a different car I'm interested in. Attached is a pic of the cowl tag. What can folks tell me about this car?
The pic is too big to post. I have to figure out how to compress but here is info from the cowl tag:

What does the dash mean on the body paint section?

Interesting. Looking at the motor, it was pointed out on the last car I was looking at that the alternator was on the wrong side for an original. This one is the same. I know the engine on this was rebuilt also. I will get some pics when I look at the car of the block stamp to make sure it is the original block. Not sure why it seems common to rebuilt differently from stock.

Years ago when I used to drag race, a few racers that had '67/68 Camaros converted to a '69 alternator setup for the sake of having a shorter belt and less chance to throw it at the end of the track.

I live in Putnam County, about 45 minutes from White Plains. This car is in Long Island.
And this car is a lot more $$$$$ than the other car.

-2 means the body color was special paint with a black convertible top.

Check that car over with someone you trust. Looks like a decent car from the pics. But look for rust or repairs.
Does it have a 12 bolt and if so what are the numbers and letters stamped on the front edge of the passenger side axle tube?
RS convertible is awesome, if you like convertibles.

From the looks of the pictures I am guessing the car is in Suffolk County on LI. I live in Manorville (east Suffolk).

So the car is now Fathom Blue with a white convertible top. With the negative sign, how do I tell what color it was originally?
Mike, Sounds like you are close. How about a little road trip? I'm a newbie and sure could use an experiences set of eyes to inspect. I'd be willing to pay the going rate also.

It could be Fathom Blue original paint. Could be.
From the exterior colors section I grabbed this paragraph. By the time that car was built, Fathom Blue was not a standard color.
In 1968, two colors, Tuxedo Black and Cordovan Maroon, started the year common to both Camaro and Corvette. In January 1968, three additional Corvette colors were added to Camaro, with specific marketing attention given to the fact that they were Corvette colors applied to Camaro. These three were Corvette Bronze, LeMans Blue, and British Green. (In addition to these three, Rallye Green was another mid-season Camaro color addition. Together they replaced Fathom Blue, Grecian Green, Palomino Ivory, and Tuxedo Black for the remainder of 1968.) As a result, Corvette shared a total of five colors with Camaro in 1968.

How do you know what color it was originally?
Doubtful anybody did a full restoration on the car. That being said, you would look in areas beyond the last paint job.

It's possible that the RS option was added. There is no vacuum tank under the hood for the vacuum operated headlamp doors and the car has standard rocker moldings.

Of I look at the picture of the motor and enlarge it a bit , by the windshield washer resevoir there are two holes in the metal. Could that be where the headlight vacume was mounted? Would there be a switch in the car somewhere that I can check.
I will be down to see the car tomorrow.
Also, when I look at the picture fro the side, the wheel wells have a chrome strip. Isn't that RS accenting?

I see nothing under the hood that is evidence or suggests this car having OE RS including the washer reservoir is in the wrong location.
The headlight switch should have vacuum hose connections.
Wheel well bright work is evidence of the style trim option that was also part of the RS option, but does not exclusively point to an RS equipped car

That's a 68 and 69 thing only. 68 RS - Drivers side fenderwell. 69 RS - Passengers side fenderwell. 67 - Core support. You must have been looking at the 68 AIM.
I found this on another site. Says 68 RS is mounted on the fenderwall . Could this be more proof it is an RS?

This car is missing the vacuum reservoir and relay valve, but from the picture it appears to have the vacuum lines and the washer bottle in the correct location, so I'd say it probably is an RS. Check to see where the vacuum lines exit the firewall.

OK, so I went to see the car. Disappointing to say the least. Here are a few pics. His brother showed the car and had no answers.
1. There was no VIN tag on the dash. Just not there. Brother did not have any details.
2. The engine codes were sanded off. Claimed when the engine was rebuilt mechanic did it but it was the original block.'
3. Car was cosmetically in worse shape then I expected.
4. Motor was cosmetically in worse shape also.
On the bright side I do believe it was a real SS/RS. Muncie cable was right and verything else checks out although there were only 26 hood springs,

Muncie is from a 64 or 65 Chevy. Not original.
Axle with the BT code could be original.

Bryon I think you mis-typed.. BT and is this the same car that is the - 2 paint code?

Was there a hole where the VIN should be?
Did you see the title with the VIN? What is it?
That axle looks a bit too early for the car. Not impossible, but early....

My Muncie in my car is 65 with matching tail shaft and my speedo cable enters on the driver side, the cable exits the firewall sideways under the wiper motor. Car in pic might be RS, but why install the wrong rocker trim?

I've moved on. It wasn't the car for me. I'm still searching.
