Our beloved JohnZ regretfully, has decided to sell his car for, what I understand, health reasons. So sad. https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/5908371665.html
-
wow.. What a great car for someone! I just forwarded the link to an old friend of mine, who had one like it in the '70's... (we met thru our Z28's).. :) I'd love to see him get it.
-
It's already been deleted or sold?
-
from another website.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just learned that John is now in Hospice care and the outlook is for approx. 1 week.
-
OMG! :( We need to all pray for JohnZ....
-
:( :(
-
How sad. A lot of people seem to die around the holidays. I am praying for you John and family. I publicly want to thank John, again, for all i (we) have benefitted from John's experience and knowledge. I thank God everyday for the great folks He has put in my path and how I have learned and benefited from these relationships.
-
John has been very generous with his knowledge. Thank you John for all your have shared with us. Prayers for you and your family
-
Very sad to see this thread. Had hoped that no news was good news after his recent hospital stay this fall. Miracles do happen so praying for his health and keeping his family and friends here and over at Team Camaro in my heart.
-
So sorry to hear this.
-
My thoughts are with John and his family.

So sad, Prayers for John and family.

Hope you are getting better, John

Sad to hear this news. Believe I actually met John and his Camaro years ago at the Superfest when I lived in Michigan. Talked his ear off for awhile about his car and where I could get a CRG hat like the one he was wearing but told me they weren't for sale. Great guy who was very knowledgeable and loved Camaros! My thoughts are with you John, Godspeed friend.
-
Actually, the hat never fit his noggin, so he always had it in the windshield. Daniel and I were parked next to him. :)
-
I am very sad to hear this. I have a collection of JohnZ's posts. If anyone here is able to contact John or his family at this difficult time, please tell him/them how much so many of us have benefited from and appreciated his help and knowledge. I feel like I know him a little bit through his posts, but unfortunately, I'll probably never have the opportunity to meet him to thank him personally. Please thank him for all of us.
-
I have a collection of John's statements as well and the hobby has benefited from both his knowledge and his ambition to assist the hobby wherever he could. Guess that is a good reason he is in the Corvette Hall of Fame. I met John several years ago at Corvette Carlisle and he was as gracious in person as he was via responds on forums. We all leave this earth at one time or another and John Hinkley has left a path not equaled by many. To John I thank him and look forward to the future when we spend time in another place talking about Corvettes and Camaro's and probably a Viper or two. God speed John and thank you for your countless contributions, and dedication to the hobby. You are without a doubt a person I would like to emulate.
-
So sad to hear this! My thoughts and prayers to John and his family.

One thing John would surely have replied, if he was able, is welcome to the site.
-
John has always been willing to help. One of the BEST!!! A true car guy.
-
Well I am gonna stay positive: John I hope you are able to read this in a few weeks or months and defy the doctors. Everyone in the Camaro/Corvette community has gained from your experiences and your wealth of information. You have given our hobby a great example by sharing your time and insight with us.
God bless Brother.
-
My prayers are with you John. I hope to see you back soon on this forum. God bless you for all you have done for our Camaro hobby.
-
I went and visited with John today.
Both his cars are sold, he won't last must longer, and he's OK with that (vs doctors and procedures). :(
-
Although I cannot visit John, I would like to send him a card. It may lift his spirits if we can express our admiration for John while he has time?

Thanks for letting us know Kurt. I'm sure a web forum is the last thing on John's mind right now, but if by some chance he does still read it I'd like to say God speed. Thank you for all that you've done and accomplished.
-
Terrible terrible news to hear this. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. These things are never easy, yet alone just before Christmas.
-
God speed John. May God bless you and your family.
-
God speed John.
-
Very sad to hear this. John has been a huge benefit to the hobby and advanced the research of these cars to an unprecedented level. I learned so much from his knowledge. Thank you John.
-
I have lost some relatives and close friends lately. But I am having a much more difficult time handling this.
Such a great man who was always willing to share his knowledge. An inspiration to us all and an icon for the automotive industry and hobby.
Godspeed JohnZ.

Very sad news.

God bless John.

John, thanks for all your help

god bless and prayers to John and his family!

I know I've used information he's contributed and has given me input on a few occasions. I'll always be grateful for his generous sharing his knowledge. Prayers to him and his family.
-
John's willingness to help others and advance our hobby is unquestioned. A true gentleman and all around great guy!
God speed John......
-
My prayers are with John and his family. I truly appreciate the his answers to my emails in the past. Godspeed.

I teared up a bit when I read this. Its silly because I don't even know John but I've been reading his generous posts and articles here for the past 13 years. Thank you JohnZ for sharing this part of your life with us and God bless you and your family.

That's a bit of John's legacy that will live on with us and others as long as CRG exists! Thousands of Camaros and their owners have benefited from his knowledge and giving spirt, and thousands more will benefit in the years to come. Many other thousands of Corvette owners, across several Corvette forums, also have benefited in similar fashion! John has been, and is an inspiration to all of us, and should deservedly continue to serve as an example for us all.
-
I usually try not to comment on issues like this for the simple fact as I have a tough time putting my thoughts into words. Although I do not personally know John nor have I met him; I feel that I owe him a sincere Thank You for all that you have accomplished as well as generously given of that knowledge to the Camaro and Corvette junkies of the world. You probably do not understand the magnitude of the impact you have made on many of us without ever realizing it. But you have. When the time comes please tell my pops hello for me and that I look forward to seeing him again later on down the road. Take care John & God bless.
-
Darrell, I can't agree more. The wealth of information John has shared is immeasurable. I for one have learned from him as I am sure others have. John always was the guy that had first hand knowledge of the cars and production methods and would take time to answer questions no matter how trivial. Thank you John the time you have devoted to this forum.
-
As we all know, John hasn't been doing very well lately and although he's recently shown some improvement, he's still far from better and is currently under Hospice Care and in stable condition. John's alert and mentally as sharp as ever and receiving excellent care, but very weak after his extended hospitalization.
John's wife, Linda, has established an account with CARINGBRIDGE.ORG (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/johnhinckley), for friends to share messages him and his family. Simply visit this website to leave a journal entry on John's page to enjoy. You'll need to enter a valid email address and your name, but your thoughts, prayers and messages of hope can make a difference.

I've learned a wealth of 1st gen knowledge that's even beyond my belief from John and many more of you here. I really like reading when John had something to say. The sharing of his experience, knowledge and history with GM could almost at times make you feel as if you were right there at the assy-line.
Thanks John for what you so kindly shared and taught me.
My prayers and thoughts are with you, and God bless.

Not far away, just across the river in Windsor, IIRC.

Posted today on Caring Bridge: :)
Miracles Never Cease
Journal entry by John Hinckley — 19 minutes ago
Here are John's own words - I'm happy to be able to provide this update - as a result of unknown medical issues and all of your thoughts and prayers, my health has improved dramatically since entering hospice care in December, and I will return home in February.
While inexplicable in medical terms, John's strength is gradually returning and he is now able to walk with the assistance of a walker. He has been cleared to return to his home for further recuperation. While he remains under Hospice care, our reasons for optimism continue to grow. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
-
Hip Hip Hooray!! Let's give God the praise from where miracles originate!
Hang in there John H.

This shows that internal fortitude and thousands of people's prayers DO MATTER... :)
Now we can continue our prayers that JohnZ is back here online with us soon...

Hi, guys, and you all have my deep appreciation for your thoughts and prayers - that has to be what turned this medical nightmare around, I'm sure. It sure feels good to be back among the living - I came perilously close to the other side in December, after 14 weeks of five separate middle-of-the-night screaming ambulance rides to Emergency admissions for gastrointestinal, heart, lung, and kidney failures (singly, and in combination), only four days at home in 4 months, professional in-patient rehab following hospital discharges, and 8 weeks of in-patient Hospice treatment after the doctors gave up.
Got to me for a while, then I decided it was MY decision, and with the emotional support of the Hospice folks, your thoughts and prayers, and the continuing positive encouragement of my wife Linda and many of my closest friends, about the third week of Hospice my health took a dramatic upturn, I walked for the first time since everything went downhill in early September, the "crisis" in my medical condition faded, and things continued to improve, to the point that I left the outside Hospice facility last Wednesday, standing up and walking.
I'm on oxygen 24/7 (concentrators in the house and in the garage office with nasal cannulas - no bottles) and my new buddy-for-life urinary catheter (Foley) in addition to my insulin regimen as a diabetic. There are about 14 other things that aren't working right either, but I'm sticking with what we're doing - it's working. (-:
It's great to be back! I'm glad I built this garage 48' deep 16 years ago - the new 44'-long ramp up to the door to the kitchen works out just fine. Even Max the dog figured it out! :-)
-
John, WAY TO GO. Keep up the recovery!
-
Awesome to see you post and glad you are in good spirits.. Now keep getting better!!
-
Welcome back, John! :)
Paul

Wow! what an ordeal? I know too well about this diabetes thing. Prayers for continued healing and praises for where you are in your recovery and from where you came and all you have been through. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. Sad that your car is gone, IMO. I put a ramp up just for a couple of geriatric dogs (Dachshunds) we had. One of the dogs never did like using it, but finally succumbed as she aged. So glad you are back and that the crew, here, was a positive factor in your recovery.
-
FANTASTIC JOHN! The automotive enthusiast world is very pleased and happy to have you back! :)
PS. now all you need is a few of Dick Whittington's lightning enthused strawberrys!! :)
-
Thanks for taking time out to post on here John. Keep up the positive thoughts, I am sure everyone you have come in contact with is glad to know you are up and around again.
-
Thanks for checking in John, hope CGR and the Corvette world can still be a bright spot in your day.
Take care
Mike
