Saw this listing today:

I have never seen a 4L date code. I am guessing original tag, but mis-stamped?
Wish they would have gone back with the Rally Green paint, I would like to see all these obscure colors come back in popularity, so guys go back with there original paint colors.
-
Real tag. and Yes they should have put it back to the correct color.
-
8 bizillion pictures and NOT ONE of the engine pad. Typical. I'm surprised they posted a picture of the TT.

I know what that tells me.. Restamp or NOM.. At least until you can see the pad..
-
11th week of April build.
-
No way is a 3970010 block correct for 9N637177 and 637xxx range. NOM for sure!

Is Darrell learning a new language...that I'm tentatively calling 'photo communicado'... :)
That particular VIN (637177)would probably be from 'Mayday'... (or the 11th week of April?).. :)
PS. What is the earliest known 3970010 block use??

shoot I thought that was a picture of Darrell... ;D

ditto on the Rally Greene

First 010 blocks appeared before this car was assembled, first casting date of an 010 block is in the third week of April, both 010 and 618 were in use by the first week of May most were 618s but there are a few 010s intermixed at this time.

Thank you Mark for supplying a better 'first 010' block date... :) A week or two is more than enough for an engine to have been built and supplied to a car produced on the 1st of May, if the timings were right...
-
This is not the first known 4L tag.
I have never personally seen a 010 block that was cast in April of 69, but they exist. I do have a May of 69 010 block, and no it's not for sale.
-
Yes, if you are going by the charts and figuring the production date, they will come out within a day. We have been logging actual dates and casting numbers. The first 010 block that has been logged was cast D. 22. 9 and a VIN 0f 6389xx. Furthermore, Buddy's car was the first 010 known at 639xxx until this 6389xx came along. We have five 04L's within a range of 6369xx to 6372xx. ALL of them are 618 blocks!! Buddy has been looking for an 010 earlier than his, for a LONG time. This 6389xx just barely squeezed by him. Do you think one in the 637 range is just going to bully its way to the top, Nope.
Congratulations Gary, now you know, along with the rest that didn't need to know!!!

There is at least one cast earlier than that. By several days.
-
Cast but what about stamped?
-
Bryon, It's not the cast date that matters, it's the assembly date, casting date, and the VIN that it ended up with in the car. Like I said, several people have been striving to find a 010 block in a Z28 earlier than the numbers above. There is also the definite ranges and groupings that have become obvious. Those 04L dates above were very tight grouped. This car in question is within this group!

Stamped versus cast dates can obviously vary.
I have seen them cast and assembled the same day - and spreads of over a month.
-
Are you talking in general terms of engine blocks or 010 blocks in this range we are discussing?
-
In general. But there is no reason for blocks in this range to be any different.
-
I should have said that I know of when I said 3rd week of April. Might be earlier ones, but it is somewhere in that vicinity.
-
On the eBay car...big mistake not going with Rallye Green.
I didn't see the V0411DZ assembly date. VERY suspect! Axle questionable as well. We need pics.
-
Nice car. The wheels are a great period piece.
-
Is your icon pic the same car, before the repaint?
-
Damn Austin.. You need your eyes checked.. lol
-
Sorry, I can see it is a blue Camaro with a cowl hood, maybe it is a 68.... :P
-
Just bustin' your chops..

That is a cool looking car. Love the color, looks like my 66 impala blue. Original Z?
-
The blue car you are referring to is one of my own cars and nothing to do with this thread. A GM documented blue 68 RS restored back in the mid 80's by its second owner and then tagged as a Z/28 well before cars being referred to as a tribute or clone. All GM original parts on the car and under the hood except for the current breather. Restored with a correct 302, M22 and 410 Posi but not a numbers car in any sense.
It's my driver car, and one that I drive a lot. It's getting an upgrade over the winter and will have a 500hp Crossram build before spring. Fun car to row gears in. Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUSqHdNoFZM
-
Since the pics referring to that other block were removed (would no longer display), the point of splitting off a new thread was useless. That thread is now gone. If claims can not be substantiated with direct proof, don't make them.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

lmao at Jerry :P

Jerry who?
