Greetings Members!
Can someone verify for me the factory finish of distributor spark advance vacuum tube holder? I believe it to be painted orange from the factory as the "AIM" does not list it as one of the parts added after the motor production line.

Buzz if you mean the small clip that attaches to the intake manifold and holds the vacuum advance hard line, mine appears to have been black, or possibly a dark phosphate finish, originally. However, I'd be interested in other's responses because I believe that this was for engines that had aluminum intakes, and on iron intakes, the same clip may have been painted orange.

I have several of these clips off iron intake engines and they are all orange. I cannot comment on the aluminum intake.

I found a loose one yesterday while looking for something else & it was dark phosphate. Don't know where it came from...Joe

Yes, that's the little piece I'm speaking of. My intake is of the iron variety and I'm betting it is (was) painted orange. But I'm glad you entered the discussion, because I just love talking Chevys, and in particular, Camaros! So Chevrolet must have left those unpainted on the aluminum intakes, just like the engine lift brackets were painted silver on the aluminum intakes and orange on the iron intakes. Very interesting! Thanks for the post!
I have several of these clips off iron intake engines and they are all orange. I cannot comment on the aluminum intake.
Ah! Thanks James! I'm betting that at least ONE of those take offs were painted at the factory. I'm sure mine was tossed out when the second owner had a bigger camshaft, a Holley carb and Accel distributor installed.

I just helped a neighbor purchase a unrestored 68 RS convertible. I will look at his. Cast iron intake, and still has the 2 barrel carb. Great car to document originality.

I checked my '67 LOS L35 survivor and it's painted (what's left of paint anyways).

Thanks Mike! I do have another question for you - What does the "UOIT" in your signature stand for?
I'm not Mike, but 'UOIT' is Uniform Option Identification Tag - Fisher Body's equivalent to the Chevrolet body or chassis broadcast code sheets; used to indicate body color, trim, relevant options etc.

This kind of brings up a thought I have had. It seems correct corvette aluminum intakes show orange overspray where the engine was painted with the intake on which would make the clip orange. I do note recall seeing this on non corvette engines with aluminum intakes? A friend just sold an original 68 327 engine with a cast iron intake and it was orange. Some of the old magazine test car pics might show it but most I have seen were black and white not color.
