Title: Early 1968 smog pump
Post by: bertfam on September 19, 2016, 09:55:39 PM
Again, not mine, but because not a lot of Camaro guys frequent the Corvette sites, I thought I'd post it here in case you have a 1968  L6, 327, or 350 engine and are looking for a smog pump.

THIS ONE (http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-parts-for-sale-wanted/3880126-smog-pumps-fs.html) (scroll down to "pump #4) is dated October 17th, 1967 and he only wants $30 plus shipping. It's frozen, but they can be repaired fairly cheaply.

I read that for a driven car that you just gut them and block the tubes for driveability and show.

On pump number 4, what does the Z signify? Also, why are date codes sometimes stamped outside of the machined area? I've seen this a few times

From the EMISSIONS REPORT (http://www.camaros.org/emissions.shtml#pumps):

Quote
The last digit is the configuration code of the pump... ...The 68 pumps with a pressure relief valve installed in the pump were coded Y. Non-pressure relief valve 68 pumps were coded Z.

And yes, there are a lot of pumps with the codes stamped on the case NOT in the machined area. Here's a good example of an early 1968 Z28 pump dated 35371Y (December 19th, 1967).
