Title: 30 30 camshaft
Post by: Dave O. on September 17, 2016, 02:27:04 AM
I have a 1968 camshaft with a part number 3849347! Did they cast the 30 30 Duntov cam with two casting #'s?

First, remember that part number and casting number are not the same.  Off by one number a lot of times.

I believe the easiest thing to do would be to quote someone from another forum on camshafts, and I believe the information below is correct.  JohnZ would know for sure though.  There are also at least two off road versions of the 30-30 cam.

The "Duntov" cam was the 3736097 (cast 3736098) solid lifter cam used in the 57-63 Corvettes and the cars with the solid lifter Corvette engine.

The 30-30 cam 3849346 (cast 3849347) came out in 64 and was the chevy sb solid lifter Corvette and 302 Z28 cam.

The LT1 cam 3972178 (cast 3972182) came out in 70.  The LT1 is considered a better cam for all earlier applications. .458 int, .484 ex, 317 dur int., 346 dur ex.

Thanks, BC. I thought it was some thing like that since this cams profiles are the same! It also had the white ( now more brownish paint markings) on it that I was told would be correct for this camshaft.
