Title: Removed Muncie
Post by: hihorse on August 16, 2016, 07:37:49 PM
removed the M20 from my 69  396/325HP 12B X66 car. Are the flywheel bolts (letter P in middle) original?

Do you see any hint of stripes on the driveshaft?

And can you do an accurate measurement of the driveshaft (measure from the center of one universal joint to the center of the other universal joint).  It usually is easiest to do that if you have help.

I can't help with the flywheel bolts.

I don't know  on the flywheel bolts, but I'm guessing original, only because I don't know any hardware stores or anywhere else where one would buy bolts marked like that.

That's a lot of balance weights. I don't recall seeing the washer style weight before....

That does not look like a factory weld.  I would venture to say there was a repair and a rebalance in its life.

Like the rallye green and short spoiler.

The washer, I commonly see from the local driveshaft shop here when building or balancing shafts, tacked on exactly like that.

Upon further study of the picture of the whole shaft, I wonder if the previous owner or a shop was convinced that something was amiss since the yokes are/were clocked in an odd way as the other DSs discussed elsewhere on this site? For whatever reason, it is apparent that this driveshaft is not 'clocked' like the others now. Either it was clocked in its current configuration when repaired or it was one of those, it's not broke, but I gotta fix it scenarios?
