Has anyone sealed around the heater box cover, ground wires, throttle cable like the factory did?I think spray can under coating would work.Does anyone have any good pictures of original sealer?thanks John
-
Yes been trying to add the sealer everywhere the A.I.M. indicates it should be applied. I've been using 3M Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound, 08509, using a sealant gun. Others recommend Lord Fuser, but I couldn't find it anywhere - even TPC Global didn't carry it.

Hans not sure which product you searched for, but TCP does sell that brand:

I live in San Diego, went to the TCP Global store off of Miramar, brought in the spec for the black variant of Lord Fuser, etc and they had no idea what I was talking about, so I gave up and went with the 3M product. Worked fine but I have heard very good reviews for the Lord Fuser sealant.

What about using the 3m spray can undercoating? any pictures of lord fusior? thanks John

John - I've used the 3M undercoating stuff in the rear wheels. It comes out rather chunky if I'm not mistaken. How do you propose to use it for sealing the heater box, ground straps cables, etc to the firewall? Seems like it could make a mess.
For the 3M sealer I used above, I just squeezed out a dab and apply it, using latex gloves. Pretty easy. For the heater box, I applied a bead on the inside channel to the spec called out for in the A.I.M.

might sound crazy, but roof pitch tar, the stuff you get to patch a leaky roof, comes in a gallon can for cheap $$ and when dry has the appearance of the black sealer used. Messy though until cured.http://www.lowes.com/pd/LEAK-STOPPER-Roof-Sealant/3663758?
Never used the aerosol , but it may do the job:

I've mixed the roofing tar type with a can of Evercoat Undercoating which gives it the correct consistency to "poor" into the seams on the floor

I have seen the sprayed sealer on the top of the heaterbox and the speedometer cable hole as well...
This is an original paint EARLY 69 Van Nuys Z28 with a minimal spray on the top of the heater box.
