Title: Rad Tag Decode

I'm helping a friend with some work on her Camaro. Its a 69 with a non original 350. Took out the radiator to be serviced and noticed it was an original one. The car has no trim tag on it, but its an early 69 N501365.
    Tag shows the following:
    IA  VL
    CF
    59           
  There are no numbers on the bottom of the tag. I'll try and get a picture posted.
   Any decode help would be appreciated.

I think IA and CF are the tank codes. So far I can't find a VL radiator application. Not likely that it's original. Might be from a Nova.

I'd guess it's a Nova rad.
What's the numbers stamped on the bottom edge of the tag? They will be smaller (see the article for examples).

Can you verify that the codes on the tanks are CF and IA?

I will keep looking for VL code, and let you know if I find it.

Yes, with age and the effects of rust and or heavy paint, these numbers are very hard to see without some cleaning (solvent, stripper, pocket knife or sand paper) off that area. You could lie the radiator on a flat level surface and put 2 or 3 drops of white vinegar on that area and let sit for a day or 2. I use a dropper as you want a drop with bubble appearance more than just smearing or wiping on the vinegar  Try to use care in cleaning as the tag, sometimes, is worth more than the radiator!

Got the rad back from the shop this morning. The letters on the side of the tank are C and F. The number at the bottom of the tag is 30147198

The tanks are common to several radiators.  Is there an oil cooler on one of the tanks for transmission hookup?

Check the number again, you have one extra number in the series.

If it is 3014719 that is for a full size car.

There is a space after the first seven numbers and the 8.

OK, that is the part number and decodes to what I posted.  Does it have the Camaro radiator mounting brackets on the sides?  Someone may have modified it to work in that car.

It's listed for a 68-69 Chevy II / Nova. Auto with AC.

I thought when I looked in the parts book it just said CHEVY. Maybe I wasnt looking close enough. Nova makes more sense.

It was in a 'everything but big car' book. :)
