Title: 69 Rear bolt alternator, washer?
Post by: BillOhio on April 24, 2016, 01:09:53 PM
The AIM calls the thin head bolt a bolt assembly. should it have a flat or lock washer on it? It didnt look like it took much torque, I wouldn't think it would be a captured lock washer.
Thanks guys

The one that holds the lower sleeve to the rear of the alternator?

Yes. I did read the reason for the thin head was to clear the valve cover. If you add a washer it makes the head stick out too far so I just used the bolt.

Thought I had an original 'takeoff' alternator or 2 that have never had that bracket removed! No washer, lock or otherwise.
