Title: Can anyone tell me what they guy's trying to say???
Post by: bertfam on April 18, 2016, 02:37:47 PM
On my LOCAL CRAIGSLIST (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/5543804894.html), but I'm having trouble trying to decipher what he's trying to get accross!

Quote
1970 wanted to have super sport Camero LS motor Dart angle plug 202 fully heads
Fort Warner Superchick and transmission Schatar Shell Hearst for state v gate shifter centerline will centreline wheels
The car is taking apart it is a project car serious builders only Price is firm no negotiations
6500

I think he has a 1970 SS with an LS engine and Dart 2.02 heads for sale, but some of it is gibberish.

Fort Warner Superchick = Some kind of Borg Warner transmission?? Super T-10 maybe?
Schatar Shell Hearst for state V gate = Hurst V-Gate shifter and a high stall torque converter??
centerline will centreline wheels = Centerline wheels I'm assuming

Ed

Nice job of interpretation, Ed..  :)
(You've been reading gibberish ads for many years I suspect).. :)

It's the transmission part that has me stumped. Can't be a high stall torque converter AND a Borg Warner Super T-10. I THINK it's a T-10, but what the heck is "Schatar Shell"?

This  sounds like the jibberish you get sometimes when you use talk to text.

Ok I think I got it.
How about Borg Warner trans with a super stick?
Scatter shield
Hurst V gate shifter.

The thing that threw me, is the title of the ad says numbers matching, so not sure what this means to this guy.

I am guessing he is a victim of spell check for the description.

I think he's trying to sell a car. That whole ad is a CF. Time to start over, buddy.

I think "fully" heads is "fuelie" heads. Just say it really fast and like you're intoxicated and it comes out perfectly!!  ;D

Every time I read "superchick", I can't help laughing. Like it's Roadrunner or something.

Probably 38-24-36 (couldn't resist).

Poster looks to be right date, too - about 1970 ?

Regards,
Steve

The movie debuted in 1973 so you're close.

It's been edited. Still spelled Hurst wrong, but now I can at least get the gist of it.

The earlier version of the ad started off as a '71-1/2.  Now it's a '73 "CAMERO"..lol, I'm guessing was changed to match the movie poster  ;D

You know, where I live ads, like this, are fairly common. Appalachia is a place where English should be taught as a 2nd language, I say, lol! In fact, just a month ago on the Cincinnati CL an ad for a " munchies " transmission was posted. This could almost be a whole new section of topics posted about strange and humorous ads seen.

Being the ad is from LA - as in Los Angeles...

los angeles >
central LA >
for sale >
cars & trucks - by owner

It looks like the add is listed in the wrong area. I was looking at the header. You are correct, the map shows just outside of Alburquerque

Hang on, the ad says LS motor, then also says numbers matching. What? Que? I don't think they had T10s either, did they?
