It should be arriving in a week or two and I'll post more pics then.

Congrats! She really looks like a beauty. They don't come much more original than that.

The paint is not 100% original because the spoilers were added however that's a small nit to pick. Very nice car and congrats on the purchase.

Thank you!  -  Other than the drilled holes to accommodate the rear spoiler.....the decklid still is original paint.
Yes - A shame it was added.....but it is what it is - there is no truly perfect survivor....they all have some issue....some more than others. I know I didn't look this good when I was 47 years old...  :^)

What a great looking car! Congrats on your purchase, I am always glad to see another original car find the right person.
Hopefully you got a lot of original paperwork as well. what options did the car have originally?

Congratulations!  Very nice car.  I had a friend who had one just like that back in mid to late seventy's.  No spoilers.

Another North Carolina car. I wonder if now with the ncrs papers should there be a poll to see which state sold the most Z,s SS,s and Big Blocks. I would think NC,VA, and PA would be there. Nice car same colors as my L78.

Thanks again everyone. The pics weren't the greatest.....after I bought it I heard a few other "survivor" guys had interest in it but didn't go to look at it in time. I learned a long time ago to leap on the good stuff :)
I'll be sure to report on date codes etc on here as I go through it.
Should be at MCACN this year with it.

Congratulations Jim, and look forward MCACN and having this car in the Vintage Certification program. From the information provided this is a very special car, and rallye green is a fabulous color. You are the perfect caretaker for this car....

It appears to have had a few owners, including Richard (Dick) Whittington.   Dick is/was a long time NCRS judging coordinator for the '68-72 cars, and a 'Vettehead'... :)   who has brought some *really potent* and tasty strawberry flavored white lightning to the Vettehead tent at Carlisle in the past... :)

That's cool - Did he own it long ago?
Apparently.......The seller has had it since 1989. I think Mike's father had it before '89 and was the one that sold it to him back in '89. I heard he contacted Mike to help him sell it. I have requested all the title copies from NC and will have the ownership trail shortly.

I drew that conclusion from one of the documents that were posted on the Yenko site...   His name was only one of the few that showed up on that site re that car.  I haven't seen Dick in awhile, and have no idea how long he might have owned that car, as he's mostly a Corvette man..?

Nice job! I looked at those and didn't really key in on the different names!
Looks like my guy - on the title had 20,283 miles - August 1989
Dick at 20,130 miles.... not dated
Franklin Canter at 17,546 miles.....not dated

RS Copo, How are you planning to get NC titles? I am from NC and have never been able to get any.

I was going to mention and ask earlier in the thread if he was going to get a NC title history from the DMV. I had no trouble getting my complete title history back to the new original selling dealer for my 69Z. Now that's been a couple of years ago so I assume they still offer it. Not very many states do anymore.

Kelley, I don't have my copies in front of me but I'm pretty sure these are the forms I sent in and if I remember correctly I used #5 as my exception number. I can't remember off hand what I wrote in the lines for "Reason For Identification"  I still have my copies and can let you know later if you need me to. Hope this helps, good luck!!

I'm hoping I can still get them. A friend got some a year ago. Fingers crossed.
And it is so true (and a shame) that most states don't do them.
I did get some from Iowa and Nebraska years ago.....they were like $2.00 per name  :)

I believe you can look up a phone number for Dick Whittington.. maybe he can tell you a bit more about the car and it's history..

That's a wonderful survivor car btw... as it's extremely unusual to find a Z28 with that little *usage* and miles.. :)

As with all my survivors - I drive them :)

I agree. Your car like Skip's car only 20k original miles.

My car may not be in your guys league, but mine has 46k original miles, but like you I like driving all my cars even the unrestored ones, so the miles will go up here and there.
You only live once, you gotta drive em right?

I await seeing Gary's car back on the road, another great original Z.

Hi All - What would be the correct air cleaner element for this car based on production date etc. Would it be 6423272 ?
What should I look for in terms of markings, mesh shape etc. ?
Thanks
Jim

Hi All
Here is an update on the car. It did very well at Vintage Certification at MCACN.
It achieved Legend.....Time Capsule was very much in reach.
It fell short mainly on the exhaust system....which is all GM....just later over the counter components and on tires. 1 was 68 dated, two are 69 dated, one was a 73 date and one was a re-pop.....just couldn't find that last tire!
The car was very well received.....I was happy.
A special thanks to Steve and his Vintage program. Steve is a true good guy and car guy and puts a tremendous effort into the program.
I will post pics once I get them sorted out.
Thanks to all that helped!
Jim

Outstanding car Jim and some great results from it being judged. I have a low mile Rally Green Z/28 that raced Super Stock from 71 onward and is now being restored back to street trim after 45 years off the road. I never thought I'd become envious with green, but it's a color that has definitely grown on me now. That's a great car that you scored...Congrats once again!

I would have never guessed you like green....lol.
