Title: Chevelle, Corvette cloners busted, charged with felonies
Post by: 69Z28-RS on March 29, 2016, 02:06:22 PM
Interesting article in Hemmings today re 'cloners' who fake cars for sale... it's about time this happened, maybe the move will grow to bust some of the 'fake Z28 sellers'...

Funny you don't see this much with 69Z's considering the 69Z has to be the most copied car in existence.

Didn,t someone say that out of 20,000 69z,s that there were only 40,000 left on the road. When I was into mid year vettes we also said if you don,t buy from the original owner just consider it fake. The other thing that makes hard when you just traded your muscle years ago the dealership did not want the buyer to know where it came from.

There are so many fakes out there. Most are easy to spot, but they get better and better as the years go by. Good article.

it is to bad there isn't a Marti report (yet?)for First Gen Camaros, or Chevrolets in general so you could tell how they were originally delivered, with what options.

The Ford/Mercury guys are very blessed with that report, it even tells you how many cars were produced with options similar to yours.

Not a fool proof system, but a great tool for those who can utilize it.

Many fakes are extremely difficult and it takes more than one person to put it together. Agree with you but a NCRS friend/judge told me of how good some are. Believe that was last year the L89 Corvette was confiscated for being a very high dollar fake at Barrett Jackson but also believed to have been faked many owners prior so the loser was the current owner who thought he had a real deal. Thinking big sale only to have lost it all. Thanks for sharing the article!
