Looks like the car is still out there, or was in April 2006...

Kinda odd.  The information below was from that first link.  It says the car was red from the trim tag.

Let's hope the block gets reunited with the car.

Quote
124378N473229. according to my white book, 235,147 cars were produced. Does that make this one #173,228 built in Norwood? The car definetley has a replacement block, not sure about the sway bar. speedo to 120 mph, 4spd with console gauges and clock in the tach and power disc brakes. The trim tag shows R2 for color.

Are you absolutely sure the last digit on the block VIN is a "9" ? Almost looks like an "8" missing the bottom half of the stamp - might be the reason behind the color discrepancy.

Just a thought -

Steve

Pretty sure the last digit is a 9, but I agree it would be good to check again.

i don't think brad the previous owner in 98 knows a lot I just posted what he said to me about the car.
I texted him the same pics of the block and he still says the car wasn't a z28 and for me to wake up.but like I said to him what are the odds he had year, make and model and vin car and I have a year make and model and vin block from the same city and town and it not be the same car.looks like factory GM stampings to me but I'm no expert either

Posts from April 2006 inquiring about this VIN were made by a guy named Daniel Sullivan. If I Google that name with Camaro a hit comes back on a newer Camaro, same guy??
Perhaps one of our moderator's has the 'connections' to get more info about the post-er on these other sites?

The date code doesn't seem to match the vin. Don't know exactly where I found it, but I have a table listing the vin ranges for Norwood and the first vin shown for July is 482589. I also know of a 68 Z28 that is pretty close to your vin and its date code is V0628. I would definitely find more markings to confirm - look for the vin near the oil filter and look for other date codes on the block.

Date is fine.

Table is here: http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml#HowMany
I don't know how to highlight it more - in bold, with astericks - The data for some months (especially May and June 68 at Norwood) deviate significantly from actual build dates, while other months correlate well.*
