Interesting read. Wish they went more in-depth, but maybe a google-search will turn up more...

that's a very famous Camaro... :)

Here's some video:

Texas Mile (2011) - a Standing start 1 mile run for top speed at the end of the 1 mile:  217 mph
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqu_m-KfPFs#t=17.861021

It's also won many (perhaps all it's been entered in) of the 'Open Road' High speed events, such as the Silver State Classic ...  :)   reached 230 mph in 1993, avg almost 200 mph over 69 mile open road (2 lane road)....

it's VERY NEAT when an old Camaro beats the newest and most expensive super cars and Exotics at their own games :)

No, that's a complete tubular framed racecar.
Proof that with enough horsepower, you can push a brick through the air very fast.

I rode shotgun in the '98 or '99 Silver State Classic in Nevada, after supplying a DEAD-STOCK and emission-certified '99 Viper GTS Coupe with only a cage and Halon fire system as required safety modifications; averaged 171mph on the way up, and 177mph on the way back. Anyone can go like Hell in an all-out tube-frame race car - try it in an emission-legal unmodified production car.  8)

One of our ZR1 forum guys (I'm talking 1990-95 model ZR1s) won the open class at the Silver States and or POny Express open road race a few times, including having a tire blow out wreck at nearly 200 mph.  He averaged nearly 200 mph if I remember correctly in his wins.  *Almost* stock, but obviously some engine and gearing modifications, including having a harness bar (with camera) in most of those races.. :)   If I can find it, I've a photo of the car after the high speed tire blowout... :)
