Title: TH400 stuck in park
Post by: HustleRussell on February 28, 2016, 01:20:13 AM
Not a Camaro but same transmission (th400) in some Camaro's. My el camino is stuck in park. It's a column shift. I removed shaft from the ear bolted to transmission. Put a big screwdriver in ear.  It's single traction rear end. With one rear tire off the ground pushing with all I got on  screwdriver on shifter ear and pushing tire with foot. Tire spins but transmission makes a ratcheting sound. Take slightest pressure away from shifter ear, locks back into park. Never seems to go into reverse. Any ideas much appreciated!

I figured out my problem. Thought I'd share it for future reference. Jam nut on detent lever had become loose. Allowing lever to "flop" around until it became jammed.

Glad yours turned out that way. I rebuilt a 350TH once and left that loose. I drove it once or twice, and when I shifted into "park" I noticed the engine didn't idle up... I gunned it slightly (fresh 383 build) and tore 5 of the parking pawls off. Oops!
