CRG 1969 Model ID lists "JH" for manual transmission L78. This #'s matching L78 has a "KC" stamp. Is it real?

IMO, restamp.

Big time..

it would be pretty hard to get the stamp in there with the plug in - I am going to have to defer to the experts, but I have to agree - not original

You'd be surprised..

Restamp. Characters are too deep, not sharp-faced like originals. Easy to stamp with the heads off -
Deck surface looks to be reworked/scraped. Certainly not a uniform broached appearance.
Just my opinion -

Steve

I believe that VIN should be above the filter by that late date Norwood car.

Absolutely. My spare 12/15/68 JH is above the filter, Norwood.

From what I have read, the engine pad (or oil filter boss) and tranny were both stamped at the same time using the same gang stamp with the heads on just after the tranny was attached - would be all but impossible to stamp the pad in that location with even depth digits with the plug as shown.
As well, all of the digits look very crisp and too deep compared to the stamping on the JM certified cars I own.
-
AGAIN its not impossible to stamp in that location as this one is... However the one in question is a restamp.

Not to beat a dead horse - but wouldn't the plug on the head prevent the gang stamp from being perpendicular to the pad? Is the photo angle giving this illusion? Not doubting you guys - I just want to understand😀

Never mind - I got it...it's not the vin#....☺️

It'd be easy to stamp it if the head were off, which it probably was, when it was re-stamped.
-
KC would be heavy duty clutch. According to the chart none know to be built.
-
So here we have the proverbial one of one LOL. ;D

Sbeaty if you are looking for your posts, they were split into a new thread. 67 Trim tag is the topic.

BB's were stamped at Tonawanda with the head off, btw.
124679N637832 - restamped block.
