does any one know if the lone 68 z28 conv. is accounted for or located--just like to know   this was a special order factory official car

Yes, the car is accounted for, and is alive and well in the Detroit suburbs.  :)

I think Al Mainerd still owns it.  He was trying to sell it about a year ago.

Back in March/April 1968, my father tried to order a Z/28 convertible.  He had a few contacts at GM (having owned several Corvairs and having to deal with the associated issues), but they just wouldn't do it for him (obviously).  I showed him this car and he said "Hey, that's my car!".

I thank all of you for the info--I was tracking a 68 Z28 conv, found it --it was a 68 firebird conv that was dealer purchased and they still own it -He is to let me look at it in Jan..........Ned
