Yeah we do..  we make snowmen and throw snowballs and go sledding (sometimes on upside down car hoods, etc).. and if we are smart.. we stay off the roads in our cars..  :)

We have a few inches of snow coming here in Knoxville, everyone is already huddled up in their storm shelters. I'm heading out to buy some brew supplies while the roads are clear, since east Tennessee will be in lockdown tomorrow I'll make it a brew day.

Hoods work better ;-)  In the Corps, we'd get pulled behind Humvees on cross country skis. No that's some fun lol  Now what's all this whining about snow? I thought it was up to 24" in  the forecast? Please... Let me know when you get 36" over night ;-)

We southern people are used to heat and humidity..  This white stuff puts everyone in a panic mode..  Our infrastructure is not setup to handle it unlike the northerners..

Growing up we had a friend with a snowmobile and an old coke sign (think 3' diameter metal Frisbee). I don't know which was worse; the wide, sweeping turns that ended in "crack-the-whip," or being pulled straight with a rooster-tail of snow right in the face!

Used to play "crack the whip" in Shoney's parking lot with a line of guys hanging on to the rear bumper of my '57 BelAir. Bald, recapped tires from Western Auto were great to learn to drive in the snow on - you never forget how. Some of the guys probably still hurt from the "whip" - you can see their faces imprinted on the light poles in the parking lot -

Nashville used to get serious snows (for a southern clime) before Al Gore ruined everything -

Steve

good stories, I thought "crack the whip" only applied to people tubing on the lake.

I guess you have to be pretty tough (or stupid) to be able to let it all hang out, behind a car pulling you in the snow.

To bad they didn't have youtube back then, that would have made for some good videos. :P :D

Being southern, Nashville never had salt trucks or snow plows until a couple of decades ago (I'm ever so glad, cause it kept the Z from dissolving along with the rest of area cars). Not so fortunate nowadays.

Parking lots were like ice rinks - they would get packed down, melt a little and refreeze overnight, slick as glass. You could get away with things like that until the local gendarmes descended on everyone and ran us off (to the next adventure). Life was cool then - and .47 cent a gallon high test.

Regards -

Our rain turned to ice/snow here in Huntsville a couple of hours ago...  we have a white covering, but not expecting to get it very deep; it will take a while to begin sticking to the roadway since we were 40F this morning..  although we're below freezing now and probably won't get above freezing until Sunday...

We don't get a lot of snow here, although once every 10-15 yrs we get a significant (> 6") snowfall...   When I was a senior in HS (dark ages) after being out for Christmas for 2 weeks, the day before we were to go back to school it began snowing..  we ended up with 12-13" and the temps stayed near zero for another week.. (another week of VACATION).. and that time it was a snow vacation.   That's when we found a friend with a truck with chains who would pull that sorry crap 'boat' we made out of two old Ford hoods (welded back to back)..   to think we didn't worry about how we were going to stop until the truck had us up to around 25 mph going down the road.. - other than yelling SLOW DOWN...  :)  (No control at all).... :)   Was only one of the 'less than smart' things we used to do.. that we somehow survived!).. :)

I'm just west of the snow belt, but we do get it...actually really mild this year. When I was stationed at Shaw AFB in the late 80's a few inches dropped, state of emergency, everything shut down. Far cry from Bitburg, where I just pcs'd out of that Fall.

My kid just drove down from Big Rapids to meet with a company's HR to work out the details pertaining to a summer internship. Spent a day with the Engineers over Xmas break, liked the staff/facility. So, safe drive back to school tomorrow AM, then let it snow if it will.

Great weather to hole up in the shop and hang some parts on the Z!

Sleet and re-freezing are our biggest problems here in western NC. We're getting a lot of wind, as well.
I've got some small car projects in the garage for tomorrow.
By next week it will be back in the 50s.
Life is good!

I was in texas one year over valentines weekend and it was cold. The night before we left they were calling for a winter storm warning. Me and my buddy wondered what in the world we were in for. They ended up with like an inch or less of snow and no way to do anything with it. You couldnt believe how many idiots were in the ditch.

Well they are calling for around 18" here and we have the fireplace on and having a glass of wine. Come Sunday it will be a lot of work digging out but oh well....... Have to get dug out as we have our 68 in the paint both to lay out the z/28 stripes.
Pretty but adds a lot of work and expense!

We ended up with about 8" here at the house tonight (NE of Nashville, about 35 miles). Temp about 24 tonight, high tomorrow 33, tomorrow night 16. Probably going to stay with us until next week's warmup -

Don't really mind the snow and cold for a brief time - kills a few of next summer's bug horde.

Steve

Hey Lakeholm, you're not far enough west! Here in the mountains I measured 11" last night. Now the wind has picked up and gusts to 30mph. Hope the power stays on. Everyone stay safe.

Here ya go..this may warm a few of you guys up !   This is the Commercial Blvd Pier here in Ft Lauderdale about 1 mile from me.  Though it's 60 outside now...it's freak'n cold   ;D

I remember when growing up in Cincinnati and about 1977 some folks drove across the Ohio River when it was frozen like a rock, I was only about 13 at  the time.  Then as we got older we graduated from sleds and round coasters to pulling each other around on an old car hood.  Down the back roads behind my bud's '72 Charger.   You had to stay alert and had to be ready to bail off when you drifted toward that mail box and post...Thinking back,  we were all hotrodders so who knows what the hood came off of...an ole Cuda, Camaro, Charger, Roadrunner, Nova,  'Stang..yeah even had a Ford buddy ?...lol

well, we got a couple of inches yesterday afternoon..   and had flurries (light) thru the night.  As of 8:20 AM this morning, it's 26F, but feels like 11F (with the wind)... here in Huntsville, AL...  (too cold).. :).     It's not supposed to get above freezing until sometime tomorrow... not much snow on the roadways, but there is ICE...

The only palm tree I can look at is the one in my sun room, which now is white out from the thick snow coming down.

OOH that weather....

I will have to pass. It was 54 this morning in So Cal and I was chilly.

Stay safe and busy (if you can) and spring will be here before you know it.

Very true but what made this one a little bitter is it was a Blizzard with 24" of snow with wind. Spent 5 plus hours out in it yesterday trying to keep things from getting out of hand and when I have to use the tractor with a front end bucket to scoop snow to remove its a bear especially with no cab. When I stopped last evening our jockey in front of the stable was able to show some light. :) Yep, think spring!

Nice and sunny here.  Barrett Jackson cruise last night was packed with 600+ cars, 75 degrees with a light breeze.  Doesn't get any better in January.   I left that snow in Ohio several years ago, had enough, no regrets.  My parents flew out this weekend, left Friday just as that storm was hitting, got off the plane here Friday afternoon, 76 degrees.  They don't want to go back, lol.

Glad you guys had fun. On the 23rd I worked in the shop, messed around the yard, went to the stored in my 4 wheel drive. Came home, slipped on the ice 8 feet from the house door and broke my leg. Walking on crutches, cannot drive, have enough screws in my leg to hang a board of sheetrock. Be carefull guys, Most of us are not 25 anymore.
