Title: Differences between '67 and '69 standard (flat) hoods
Post by: dale_z28 on January 11, 2016, 06:21:00 PM
This may sound utterly stupid, but since I have no friends who own '67 Camaros, and I know of no source to look this up, I was hoping to learn how different-appearing these hoods are. You see, I want to display the original hood and trunklid from my car. Because of circumstances beyond my control (an uncooperative ex-wife) I cannot use my actual parts, so I must obtain new or used ones. Here's my point: I can buy a 1967 Camaro hood locally for $40. Described to be in good shape; rust free. Someday I'll do further research and find a genuine '69 for my "wall", but for now, would it be close?

If you got the 69Z and she kept the flat hood, I would say you came out ahead in that deal... ;D

There is a thread about the differences in deck lids. Most of what changed was on the under side, so if you are displaying either the hood or the deck lid I would think any first gen hood and deck lid would work.

I am not sure on the underside of the hood if the bracing changed, seems like it would have remained the same.

1969 hoods are definitely different. They have a small tab on each side of the opening at the rear and alignment holes near the hinges.

Good info is there pics on the CRG that show the difference?

Thanks! That's great news. At this point I'm planning to paint the same color / stripe scheme on the "spares", but I may not invest in a quality job for now, it's just for looks for the "man-cave"

I don't know but it's a good question.  I want to pick up a flat hood for mine to paint with the car, as well as another decklid.  I'm aware of decklid differences although I'm not concerned with that because the spare decklid is getting a spoiler and the original non spoiler is staying on the car.
But I would like to see differences in the hoods pointed out, and I don't remember seeing that anywhere.

Interesting differences. There was a recent thread over at yenko.net where a member posted a wanted ad for a '67 flat hood, and stated the edges were subtly different from the '68-'69 version. Wonder if this is what he was thinking of, or if there is another 67-specific difference?
