Title: Engine Block Decode
Post by: Jek9016 on January 10, 2016, 09:36:58 PM
I have a later 350 installed in my 67.  Have not had any luck decoding the numbers, wonder if anyone can help.
Front passenger side under the head has 12K523985
On the rear of the block, where the bell housing attaches under the intake I see 9970010.

Anyone ever run across these numbers?

I answered your other post. Casting number is most likely 3970010 and engine most likely from a 1972 Chevelle.

Post what else is stamped on the front pad of the block in front of the passenger side cylinder head if you want to know more about what that 350 was originally.

No way to tell with just the numbers you provided.

Look on the pad again. There should be something similar to V0514CLT. It won't be exactly that - but similar. Post a pic if you can.

Only way to tell 2 bolt or 4 bolt main for sure it to drop the oil pan. In most cases it's not that important.
