Just was reading the post on the Originally section and ran across a question about exhaust hangers that prompted my question.
My Z28 had what appeared to be the original exhaust hangers used in front of the rear axle (original 45K miles before the restoration). I can not be sure if the hangers are original GM parts, but one of the two had a white stripe in the rubber. I was told that used tires were used to recycle the rubber to manufacture the hangers. This appears to be true based on my hanger. Does anyone else out there have a 1st Gen Camaro with the original hangers that have a white stripe in the rubber? If so, is it a Norwood or Van Nuys built car and what is the date code? Has anyone had original hangers restored?
JohnZ.....do you know about this or have seen this before?

That's quite common - the hangers were made from recycled tire carcasses, and the piece of carcass in the photo is from the sidewall of a whitewall tire.

I have original NOS hangers on my 69 and they have white in them just like the picture.

is there any manufacturers stamp on these type of hangers? I have a set with a P and a triangle stamped in them, but they only have the 2 diagonal holes for mounting, not the 5 like in your pictures. ANybody else have an original set they post pictures of or look for stampings on?

I went to the garage at midnight and checked for you. My two long hangars only had the two diagonal holes. They are either the originals, OR I replaced them witih GM parts around 1975 (too long ago, and I don't really remember but I did buy new muffler and pipes from GM at that time; the car hasn't been out of my garage since 1980, although I'm now in the process of disassembling and cleaning the parts for reassembly (which is why it's a bit easier to check these). My parts each have an 'Lo' on them (on the long metal strap portion), and a small '5' on the part that clamps to the pipe. One of them still had a piece of the paper PN on it. with the number 930087' (all I could read - it might should have a 3 in front of it?)..
the other two hangars actually had stamped GM part numbers on them. 3964858 and 3965633, with an M and 3 also stamped. Some of them had rubber which had 'white sections' in it (from the tires I suppose)..
