Seen a lot of posts re: repop Goodyear WTGT, Firestone tires on Z/28s as far as ride, handling. Wondering if the cost of buying a set of these would add that much more value to the car? Really like the look of originals, but the cost is so steep and ride may not be that good, don't know if it would be worth it. Any feedback.

I personally don't mind the ride quality on the repop OEM tires. I have a couple cars here with them and wouldn't bother me a bit to drive them daily. Even my wife doesn't mind them. If the tires weren't so darn expensive I wouldn't be so anal about wearing them out, lol. My opinion these classic cars only look right with correct bias ply tires on them, nothing looks better. There will be a set on my Z for certain when I decide to completely restore the car.
As far as value, hard to say. I know myself, I'd be willing to pay more for a car with correct tires on it verses the same ole' BFG radials you see on everything. In the end I think it depends on the person.

The answer to that question probably depends upon 'How'... and 'How Much' .. you plan to drive your car... as a daily driver, and long trip car, I'd definitely want better tires with longer life on the car. A better answer for me would be to have two sets of tires/wheels... good radials for *driving*.. and maybe repops on original wheels for 'show' (if you have an original/restored car)...

I would agree with Gary as well. If I had a extra set of (FW) rally wheels I might mount some BFG's to those. But I hardly drive my car as it is, so the GT wide treads are fine. I was able to drive my friends 67 SS/RS this weekend, and it drove real smooth with the BFG tires, but his car would look bitchin with the original style redlines. He is debating on the red lines just for that reason.

I think the Good Years just bring it all alive! I think it would increase the value for the cost, and for the curb appeal. I spent all that time restoring a set of FW's, and throwing on some 65 dollar radials. Rides great, doesn't catch edges like the good year bias. And they are NOT as noisy, and don't grab the steering wheel out of your hand on a rough road. BUT I don't care, the look of the bias is so cool! I just can't bring myself to put the radials back on.. I figure I only drive the car a few hundred miles a year. When they wear out in a few years, I'll buy some more. Actually on Dec. 5th I turned 55 and my awesome girlfriend bought these for me. She got them in November so I could have them on the car for the MCACN. Got mine for $280 each from Rusty. Better than $343.. He is a member and car guy. 816-654-3400

A set for "show" and a set for "go" has long been a standard for national meets with owners who drive their cars. Added value would be better judging scores, which could help if you decided to sell.
As to the bias vs radial issue. There are many different opinions to that.

I drive our 69 L78 Nova on orig type bias tires and its OK but would not for any real distance but again, not many take cars like this on trips or long distances. They have cost but they sure look good and add some amount of value (undefinable). I'd suggest going with what you like your car to look like or what you think looks best as your the one who will see it the most and its a long term decision.

I plan on putting polyglas tires back on my original rims for "cruising", but I have a set of repro 15" rims and radials for tearing up the pavement

crobjones: 'Polyglas' tires were NOT an original option on first gen Camaros... if you have a '69 Z28, I think the options were (and are for originality) the Goodyear Wide Tread GT's or the Firestone Sportscar 200.. both were E70-15 in size.

14" polyglas tires were an option. They were not a common option. But they were an option
