Title: Spoiler AND Rear Antenna
Post by: 9T4Z on December 08, 2006, 12:42:49 AM
I know this has been discussed before... and this pic has probably been around the block... but how can a judge tell you that this combo does not exist...?  Comical reply's only please  ;D

Promotional photos aren't a great source of accurate info for production configurations; cars used for ad agency photography were frequently pre-production or cars "cobbled" to meet advertising deadlines.

I have other photos of that car and know the story behind it.

It is the Styling mock-up car shown at the kick-off dinner. It also had black rockers.

It's you're responsibility to prove originality if there is an originality question... not the judges.

But since you've now gotten three replies... none of them comical...  OK, I'll bite:
"Pictures...?  Pictures...?  We don't know nothing about no stinking pictures...!"

Willaim,

Care to post any more of those images?  I'd like to see the blacked-out rockers.

We all tend to think that photo manipulation, cosmetic touch ups, etc. are all a product of the last few years and only possible in the computer age as we now all know it with the advent of Photoshop and other technologies.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

There is a Chevrolet advertisement from 1969 with the picture of a '69 Camaro base convertible, as I recall the car was yellow (not sure if the yellow was Daytona or Butternut yellow) that was very prominently used as advertising "back in the day".  I'm sure that many of you would recognize the picture I'm referring to if you saw it.  Thought I had a copy of it somewhere, but at the moment it escapes me.  If I can find it, I'll post it.

In any event, there are two versions of that picture - one from early in the '69 production year and one later (post Jan 1969).  The difference is that the early production picture shows an engine front fender badge of "327" an the late production picture shows a front fender badge of "307".  Obviously the same picture, the latter being the first picture "touched up" to reflect the base V8 engine change in Jan '69 from 327 to 307 cid.

I would consider any advertising or promotional pictures as just that - as stated previousy, they may or may not reflect production reality.  Although it was much more difficult in 1968-69, photo manipulation and "touch up" was not unheard of - just done manually by the artist's hand instead of electronically by the computer.

Will a rear antenna fir on a car with a spoiler?? My 69 is Olympic Gold with a black vinyl top and I would like to add the rear spoiler because of the look. My car is an early build with a short 67-68 style spoiler.

I would just like to know if this will fit before I cut a hole in the quarter.

If you install it where the rear factory hole position is, the antenna will hit.

Don't do it! Keep it stock. I've seen too many people butcher beautiful and original cars (my brother included) trying to obtain some "look". Keep it factory and you will keep it valuable. Just my two cents worth. Good luck to you.

There are a good many non spoiler z's out there.... They would have the stripes which went to the edge of the deck lid.
They also could have been spoiler cars....

My car had a rear antenna.  It's been at the body shop having the rear 1/4's were replaced.  When the 1/4's were removed the antenna hole that was in the old fender was tossed without a mesurement.  Now it's my job to find the correct location.  Anybody have the dementions and a photo I can pass on the the bodyman?

Thanks!  Joe
