Title: 1969 Camaro Convertible Firewall cowl project
Post by: 69 Zee on December 30, 2015, 03:12:08 AM
Anyone in need of the entire cowl clip?  Best jump on it now before it's to late  ;D  But first run to your favorite bank and take out a second mortgage !  :o

One can only imagine what he'd want for his parts when he's ready to sell them...YIKES !!

Tag looks fake, firewall looks to have only had standard brakes and not power..  Also if you look at the speedo hole & clip areas they have a different look similar to the area around the tag..  I would bet the tag doesnt line up with the vin..  I smell a rat and I dont mean a big block...

I believe Darrell is correct.  Definitely something fraudulent going on.  Rockers are for coupe, NOT convertible.

:o If it is a 713 interior as tag shows, then where is the assist strap above glove box (and its holes for such)??...along with woodgrain etc...and NO Camaro emblem above the g. box. ::)

:o If it is a 713 interior as tag shows
Also if correct..713 (Black Houndstooth) was not an option on convertibles other than the Pace Car

I imagine to the buyer this cowl means nothing, as obviously the bidders are looking for the tag and VIN to cobble up a rebody. Question posed above is relevant - does the tag date correlate to the VIN bracket ? Since the seller conveniently covered both with Ford sheet metal patch tape, we won't be able to keep an eye on this one. Someone will trying to pass this one off in the future -

Maybe the buyer will attach the trim tag to the Dynacorn or recipient with sheet metal screws, or pop rivets. That's always amusing, no matter how many times I've seen it.

Regards,
Steve

Zooming in on trim tag. Date code is 09 A. VIN 9N679---. CRG general info, end of month reports, states the end of August 69 was VIN 9N678253. The numbers appear to be from same time period. If the Muncie speedo cable piercing is from factory, that would indicate factory SS with manual transmission. I think seller covered #'s to prevent CRG from exposing this project after it's completed and up for sale on e-bay.    http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml

I stand corrected. Muncie hole could also indicate COPO or Z/28. But why fake an SS if it was factory COPO or Z/28?

I still think of my self as newbie. I'm still learning. Just thought id say no doubt trim tag is fake. But if Muncie hole was cut from factory it is real SS,Z28 or COPO with manual trans right?

If the muncie hole was there, wouldn't it have a hole for the speedo clip? I see just the dimple on where it would have been punched if needed......

Hey Spookster!! Welcome aboard! You know me. PM me.
That would make  sense, the clip hole. But I would not use the fact that the lack of a piercing rules out what trans. a car came with, as there were some inconsistencies that have been noted on cars and it is possible a piercing got missed, I guess? That cowl has so many other  issues though, the piercing  just one of many.

I think spooky is right on. More proof this is not as advertised.

It's just I keep looking at my own firewall and notice the missing clips on mine. I just can't bring myself to put in a repop that doesn't look  "good enough". Someday I will find some....

I must have missed this above, but he said it was a big block car. Isn't the heater core cut out for small block?
If so, one of many untruths.

BB and SB firewalls are the same, the heater box covers are different, A foam seal is used to cover the SB firewall cutouts when a BB cover is used.
