Title: 69 BB zbar angle
Post by: HawkX66 on September 23, 2015, 05:59:23 PM
What do you guys think of the angle of my zbar? I threw my original 396 in with the original mounts for now so I could see how everything is lining up before I put new motor mounts and my spare 396 in it. Its a 69 BB cross member also. The clutch arm is new GM in the original 621 bell housing. The only thing I'm not absolutely positive of is the tranny mount. It seemed to line up perfectly though. It's a 73 Z28 M21. Thanks.

Great Pics Hawk! The angle at the frame mounted bracket does look just a wee bit skewed. Could that bracket be bent just above the top of the frame? The felt washer may make it look more out of whack than it is................ Are those new body mounts?

Thanks Barry. At the frame mount, I think it's just the felt like you mentioned. It does look pretty crazy in that pic though.
They are new body bushings, but original mounts. I repaired the rusted out hole though.
Here's a better pic of the frame mount. Still not a great pic though...:

I have iinstalled many in Chevelles and Camaros, and the angle would have to be off pretty far to bind or be noticeable. Your pics look good. As long as you are clearing your headers and steering box/column, everything should be fine.

Man that is a nice X-member!  "Its a 69 BB cross member also" I would say you are a bit farther, scratch that, a LOT,LOT farther along than I.

Yes, yes it is Bentley ;-) What's going on with yours? It sounded like your new guy was moving like Flash Gordon!

Thanks for that. Good to know. I thought it was ok from ones I've seen and because all the parts were the born with parts from the bellhousing forward, but after having it so far apart, I just didn't quite have the warm and fuzzy with the angle.

DAVE
1973 Z28 M21?  Does it have a VIN?
My brother is missing the M21 out of his 73 Z28, has the engine, but the trans was missing.

Sure does James. Here it is: 13N194317 I've thought about posting that up a million times, but I kept forgetting.

Do not intend to hi-jack, so this is all I will say, Waiting to get to underside to see if there are any missing or mis-located items like you had and point out. I know of a few small things needing attn. Single Exhaust Hanger needs to be put on and a small clip in the fuel neck tunnel, jack rod hangar, and some other stuff. Plus a lot of holes for things like antenna, emblems, RS tail light wire holes inside trunk, a lot of seam sealer, etc... need drilled.
A local friend claims I can use his rotisserie, but you know how that goes...it is still in use by someone else. So many loose ends, my head is spinning.
"Hey now, lets not compare ..... Bentley your car is moving at light speed compared to just a month or so ago." -thanks, Austin.
A pic of my tunnel 'cutout' for shifter (before floor repair) I left my tunnel in favor of patch panels. Posted because you had some detail of how you replicated yours, Dave, over on TC.

Do you have a pic of the pass side of your tunnel? I've looked high and low and I can't find any pic that I've taken of that side of my tunnel. I want to see where the clip goes for the Muncie speedo cable. I know there is one up by the Muncie hole, but I don't remember ever seeing one in the tunnel on mine. I can almost see the area in the pic you posted.

I can get you pics of the ones on the green car.  I still have it in the air.  Also get you some measurements if that would help.

That'd be great. Thanks Darrell.

This is showing the rear clip (closest to trans)  it is roughly 3" from the lip of the toe board to floor.

Here you can see it is 4" from the crossmember.

(http://i1310.photobucket.com/albums/s649/cook_dw/1968%20Rallye%20Green%20L78%20Camaro/IMG_4103_zpsbldtklxd.jpg) (http://s1310.photobucket.com/user/cook_dw/media/1968%20Rallye%20Green%20L78%20Camaro/IMG_4103_zpsbldtklxd.jpg.html)

It is roughly 1.5" from the bottom of the floor

This is the middle clilp if your car had it.  It is the same 1.5" from the flat of the firewall / toe board.

(http://i1310.photobucket.com/albums/s649/cook_dw/1968%20Rallye%20Green%20L78%20Camaro/IMG_4101_zpscy7lupol.jpg) (http://s1310.photobucket.com/user/cook_dw/media/1968%20Rallye%20Green%20L78%20Camaro/IMG_4101_zpscy7lupol.jpg.html)

It is roughly 11" from the flat of the floor at the same angle of the way the toe board comes down to the perpendicular portion of the floor to the ground.  If that makes sense.

Great pics. Thanks! I still have that section of my tunnel. I kept my whole tunnel when I cut it out. I just cut it in half to make it easier to move around without cutting my fingers off... Now I know why I never took pics of the clips. Mine didn't have the extra two. Only the one up by the Muncie hole. Thanks a lot for grabbing those pics.

...
Dave - I hope you don't mind but I removed the previous pics in your reply, since they were also right above this post.  And I didn't think we needed them twice.   :)  Bryon Miller
