Nope. The cowl hood was an option on SS and Z28 models in 1969 and was included on all COPO's and Pace Cars.

I believe it was also a late in the year option also.

It was introduced midyear '69. #1 ZL1, built 12E at Norwood is one of the first Camaros to have a factory ZL2 hood. A late December LOS-built Z28 with ZL2 has also been documented.

It was actually a required option on Z10 & Z11 and is listed on factory paperwork. It is not listed on paperwork for COPOs 9560 & 9561. Hard to believe but most Z/28s did not have it.

I think they all have them now. All 30,000 out 20,000 built.

Since COPO order vehicles were also fleet vehicles like taxis, company fleet vehicles such as trucks or cars trucks for utility companies and highway depts. Could a base Camaro have been order with a stand alone ZL2 option.  Not likely, but could it have been done?

Not as far as I know. If ordered as an option, it required Z28 or SS.

Not as far as I know. The cowl plenum option was cancelled before the end of the 68 model year.

COPO orders were typically for a fleet of cars with specific equipment that existed but not for that particular body style or model. For example many years ago an acquaintance located a '69 Chevelle 4-door sedan with L34 396 automatic and A/C. Paperwork with the car listed only the COPO #; it was a former police vehicle. Other little known '69 Camaro COPOs are 4.56 rear axle and a special hood stripe.

Any COPO proposal had to be reviewed by engineering to ensure it was viable. A base Camaro did not have a 4 barrel carburetor so there would not have been a compatible ZL2 air cleaner assembly. Engineering would have rejected it.

The 67-68 plenum air cleaner was not listed as a '69 Camaro option. Probably a few were ordered as a service part and retrofitted.

Well yes and no..  Yes it could not be ordered from the factory but since they werent factory installed then......  I guess you could call it factory ordered/dealer installed. ;D   But you could have ordered one from the dealer (if they could find one) and have them install it..  I know splitting hairs.. :P

Sorry William I was typing at the same time you were.

In 69 the cowl plenum was available through the parts dept. I know of a couple of early built original 69 Z28's that the owners installed the cowl plenum. One of the cars was an excellent fathom green car out of West Chester, Pa.

As William points out it had to be on a four barrel car. I've only seen it on SS, Z28 and part of the BOM on COPO's and Pace Cars.
