Title: Camaros.org Main Page
Post by: cook_dw on September 18, 2015, 10:57:18 PM
I am digging the new layout of the Cars of the Month..  Click on the 68 - "Feature Car" and take a look..  I think this would give people a better understanding of peoples' rides plus I personally like hearing the stories that go along with the rides..  Keep it up guys!!  I like it!!

That is real nice! I always thought a section like that would be a nice addition to this great site. I don't know if it is because of room to print, but in future Feature Car of the Month I would like to see how long the current owner has owned their car and how they came about getting that car. Maybe even an inset picture of how it looked upon purchase.

considering how hard it is for them to get submissions, I think that may be wishful thinking....

I've sent couple of cars with pics and write ups but never heard back. Not sure but the submission process hasn't worked for me. I've posted most of mine of Yenko.net. Who ever is in charge let me know the submission protocol and I'll submit again.

Thanks,

Steve and Eldon, this is just a test at this point. It's all new. This does take some time to put together, but I am thinking it is probably worth it. We were not doing this in the past, so if you submitted something earlier I am sorry that it was not used. The car for October has already been chosen. If you submit something again, I will try to make sure your car is used.

I work with Steve K. on this. He generally collects the pics that I post each month (Kurt did the posting of the pics previously). I will see if Steve can post his contact info on how to do this again.

As to WHAT we want, this is going to evolve a bit. Generally I want
1. About 5 pics.
2. Some history of the car and what it was originally - if possible.
3. Condition of the car now.
4. Any future plans.

Right now it will just be one car per month, but depending on how this evolves, there could be more than one.

I don't want to make the guidelines too rigid, but there will have to be a general format.

I have nothing against show cars, but my preference would be for cars that get selected to be ones that are driven regularly. High end, high dollar cars usually end up as feature cars in magazines. But this is open to all first generation Camaros.

I have been thinking about doing something else with original unrestored cars, but have to get more input on that. That would be something more involved than these write ups that go with the monthly pics.  Maybe even a new section where people can post their own pics and write up. Stay tuned.

Thats a nice write up. Car looks good and would have been stunning in the original colors.

This is something I would be interested in.  I have already started a thread in the Preservation Section over on SYC.  Only reason I havent posted it here is due to I wasnt sure how it would be received since we dont have a build thread section or in your case an unrestored section..  I say do it.  I know there will be several that would be great candidates for something like that.

I agree that someday it needs to go back to original colors.

One other interesting thing is the body number of this car. NOR 12345

Hey guys,

I tried to put together something like this a while back, and I did not seem to get a lot of responses about it.  I would certainly like to try it again if we can get enough  interest.  I suppose we could try it like Bryon did, and select one of the three home page pics every month to be the feature car.  I really like that idea.

Let's give it a whirl.  If I can get three guys to send me the info and pics as outlined above by Bryon, I will put it together, and submit it to Bryon so he can do his magic and make a presentation and make it look awesome.

So, send in those pics AND YOUR WRITE UP.  Tell us anything interesting about the car you think we would want to know.  The who, what, where, when and why is a good place to start.  How you found it, what you went thru to get it, how you fixed it up if you had to do that, and so on.  Your car does NOT have to be a show car...it only has to be your car.  CRG is about all of us.  Now, if you do have a trailer queen or a show car, well of course send it on in...we LOVE ALL FIRST GEN CAMAROS...the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Send em to me at:

sdkar@bellsouth.net

Thanks,
Steve

Let me see what I can track down on the other car owners names - and then I might be able to add those.

Bryon posts what he is sent. If the name isn't included....
I hated posting the pics without a name, btw.

I'd consider changing the picture rotation to a bi-monthly system. Less work and less pics needed.

Another cool feature car this month..  Check it out..

I would really like to see this become the norm of seeing members cars featured here..  The stories behind the car are what make these cars so cool..  I would also like to eventually see a sub category for unrestored original cars but that may be a stretch.

Darrell, I'm just curious, what would you consider to be an non-restored original car? Obviously, if the car is driven,  maintenance items would have to have been replaced over the years, etc. Things like plugs, and wires, brakes.

About the closest car I've read about to be completely original and non-restored was the Chevelle that was so original, it still had the original oil and filter. I think I saw pics of it on this site? But about the only was for that to happen is for the car to be stored in a garage new and never driven.

Very cool.  I don't know what Darrel's idea is for unrestored original cars but there are categories now to certify such cars with different levels of originality.   I've had a few unrestored cars over the years and still have a few left.  2 of them still show very well, and one I plan to have certified.
Usually it's a given to have normal wear items replaced.  I have a link around here somewhere I can find that lays it all out and what's accepted.  It's changed a bit over the last 10-15 years as you can imagine these cars keep getting older and getting harder to keep original.  Unrestored cars have really caught on lately.
Title: Re: Camaros.org Main Page
Post by: cook_dw on October 09, 2015, 02:16:48 PM
To me original is numbers matching or at least the majority of the car is  and unrestored is just that; unrestored.  Regular wear and tear items are understood to have been replaced.  At least that is my interpretation.  I guess you could call it a Survivor sub category of forum..??..  I am not talking about any type of certification process just a sub category of the forum for original unrestored (survivor) cars to display their cars and parts.  This may not work as that is mainly what this site is about but there is also a lot of restoration discusses which is fine & nothing wrong with it.  I guess I like the Preservation Forum over on SYC and would like to see a more Camaro based one here.  Either way if there is not a lot of interest then there is no sense in bringing it up..

hahaha

I think we have enough guys on here to have a unrestored/preserved category going. Shoot I just learned that original rally wheels have some sort of a green tint to them.... So sure there is a ton of info that could be put into that, would it differ from the originality category though?
Title: Re: Camaros.org Main Page
Post by: cook_dw on October 09, 2015, 03:17:26 PM
I was thinking more of the cars and its parts..  Not necessarily data collection or comparison.  Kinda like a showcase if you will..  Not really sure what it would involve or hold just talking out loud here.  Maybe threads or articles showing how to preserve (not restore) something or proper ways of cleaning or polishing original parts without damaging them or whatever the project or topic would be.  It very well may be redundant with the Originality cat..

 ;D ;D ;D ;DYa'll just need to remember that everything after a '67 is not "original" ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: Camaros.org Main Page
Post by: bcmiller on October 09, 2015, 03:28:55 PM
The unrestored cars section is likely coming soon.  Trying to work out the details of how to handle that.  We don't want to duplicate the Originality section.

Hang loose...

My idea of cars I would like to see highlighted would need to
1. Have original engine, transmission, rear axle.
2. Have original paint or mostly original paint.
3. Have original interior or mostly original interior.

Wear and tear items - hoses, belts, filters, spark plugs, etc. wouldn't necessarily all have to be original.

Cars on the main page will now be updated every two months. Next change will be around December 1.

The black 68 now has a 406 SBC with 572 hp.

The new pics on the main page are up.  These will run for 2 months now, with the next update likely around February 1.

Please consider submitting pics and information about your car for possible inclusion as a "Feature Car".  If we don't get any more submissions by late January, we may quit doing these.

Thanks!

Thanks guys..  He had a small trailer he used to pull on occasion either to get a load of gravel or lumber or whatever..  The car use used like any normal car back in the day..  He just left the hitch on it up until the 90's.  I still have the hitch and the trailer in behind the garage and hasn't moved in 30 years..  I agree people need to submit!!  Lets keep this going!!

I am hoping if we can keep this going, Bentley will be a future feature of the month, Although Gary has owned his since the 70's and probably has some good pics from BITD. I would also nominate Bill Ohio, while he hasn't owned it that long, his car has some cool history, and some good original pics.
I know there are guys who fit the bill for this page....

(much better than just another photo in my opinion)..  Congrats Bentley.. and Thanks for taking the time to write it up for all of us to enjoy~

Yeah looked like the Pumpkin run.  Sure miss that show.  We are scheduling to make the trip out just for that show and see all my buddies you just mentioned.  I just saw Mike about 2 months ago, glad to see he's doing good.  I was sad to hear his mom and dad have passed away. His dad was a hoot.  I've ridden in that COPO a few times and have known it, and Mike since the mid 70's, so I'd recognize it anywhere.  Mikes a real good guy.   I could tell some stories about that car, lol.
I haven't heard from Tony in a while, but I stored his COPO in my garage and worked on it for him years ago, even took it out for a spin with my son riding shotgun.  Tony is another really good guy.   Those are 2 guys that are lucky to have as friends, and not the type you would expect to own COPO's, and drive them like they do.   Laid back and not into all that goofy-ness when it comes to those cars that you normally see (if you know them you know what I mean)  ;)

I like all the cars as well. The 69 appears to be a nice driver and similar to mine.
The early 68 Z, who wouldn't love to see more pics of that?
The 67, is there some significance to that car as far as the hood and the hood pins are concerned. If not I like the look, just curious about that car.
All of 3 of this months cars look bad ass to me. WTG guys.. :)

On the 67, Troy used to own it and built it that way 12 years ago or so.

He sold it recently. I need to update the name on the pic.

You can look at many pics in my build thread concerning our 68Z as the entire build is posted with many details on team camaro' build threads "time for another 68 z28 to be restored."
Thanks for the compliments! Car will be at MCACN this Nov..
