Here is an ebay auction for an NOS proportioning valve used by many of the Trans-Am teams back in the day.

The asking price is probably higher than I have ever seen but the pictures from the ad are at least useful to give an idea of the original finishes. I have seen these valves located under the hood in the familiar location under the master cylinder and in other cases I have seen them mounted in the interior of the car.

Looks like the same one used for 65 and 66 mustangs with disc brakes.

Used on Lincolns and Thunderbirds from that era too, from what I've been told.
Good item to remove when/if you see those cars in a junkyard.

I'm curious... based on your statement that these valves are sometimes located in the driver's compartment... I am assuming that is to allow 'during race' adjustment of front-rear brake bias based on changing conditions with weight bias?... if so, wouldn't something like the following be more easily used by a driver?

I'm assuming that I'm missing something here that you can/will fill me in on... :)
PS. I do understand theperiod 'Trans Am' restoration aspects of the part you referenced... if that is the only advantage of that $1200 part... :)

Just chiming in, should be into an online class right now, I believe the style listed on Ebay was not available until years later. We run a Wilwood in the Anglia.

Gary, that newer valve would seem to be more easily used but it is not an authentic "period correct" piece. I think the only reason to put a brake valve in the interior of the car would be to allow the driver to make some kind of adjustment "on the fly".

Thanks Jon, those were the only reasons I could understand, but didn't know if there was something *special* about the HD nature of that valve...

Why would anybody in their right mind pay $1200. US for a proportioning valve when a $30. part would do the same job ......... Obviously if someone buys this item he should immediately consider joining Jay Leno's more money than brains club.
