Title: 1968 CamaroZ/28 Paint Code KK
Post by: dannystarr on August 29, 2015, 01:50:49 AM
Check this one out. If you don't know the difference between Vinyl and leather I think I will pass. What ELSE is wrong. Cowl tag rivets look suspect? Pad stamp ?? Pretty cool that it is the same owner since 1972..D

I can't recall seeing a 68 Z in that color.
But IMO, the pad isn't original.

Sorry Austin, my attempt at a joke.  KD1 is air injection reactor delete.  Take a good look at the engine photo.

Nope, it was funny just wasn't sure what I was suppose to be looking for there. ( I'm just a dumb 69 guy, I have to learn more about the 68 and 67)

I owned a Camaro Z28 exactly  like this one  in 1968 , no spoiler on the rear though. Owned about 10 months, came out of my apt one morning and it was gone. Notified the police and waited , about 4 days later the police called, said they had my car at the impound lot. Went to the lot, the Z had be stripped, no engine and trans, what a sick feeling, was like a viewing at a funeral home. I drag raced it all summer in 68, turned 13.2 @ 108 w/ headers and a pair of cheap slicks, I think someone saw it there and  snatched it. Have some photos, time cards and the POP. Having your car stolen is a horrible experience, I sure others have been in the fix.

I assume you didn't want it back. Do you know what happened to it? What did you replace it with?
I'd be curious to see a pic of the POP. :)

I have never seen a Z28 in that color either.

And I agree the engine pad stamp does not look correct.

Kurt, I would have liked to have had it back , but didn't know that was an option. You know young and dumb. I assumed it was sold  by the insurance company. I bought a 69 z-28 rally sport orange w/ black stripes , but it never seemed to run as good as the 68 z. As a side note my 68 came with 302 emblems on the fenders and had the flat hood. Will try to scan the POP this evening. My son is a cop and I have run the VIN several times with no result.

All '68 Z28s came from the factory with a flat hood! :)

Better flow numbers on the 68 heads. Seat of the pants may felt better, probably cut close to the same times. They were high 12-low 13 cars with a steep rear gear, street tires and corked headers. Very respectable times even in this day and age...comparing apples to apples, naturally aspirated mills.

I'm leaning towards the 1968 also. Maybe because my 1968 Z/28 was the first Camaro I purchased back in 1976. No mind altering beverage here. It's too hot for anything other than water here :)....Joe

in 'stock form', I also suspect the '68 may have been a bit faster (it felt that way?  maybe because I suspect it's a bit lighter than the '69)..  My '68 was very fast..  the engine in stock form (as far as I knew) really ran well!  I traded that car for my '69 which needed an engine rebuild..  Now after my engine rebuild, the '69 engine was better than the '68 302 engine, but the '69 got a few tricks learned from a friend who had a '69 Z28 SCCA/TransAM road racer from new and was a super mechanical engineer!!

I've also owned a '70 Z28, which I preferred to *drive*..  as I think it handled better than the first gens and with the 350 cubes was easier to drive...  but the '69 is also far preferable to any others in the LOOKS FAST department..  :)

I posted this on CRG in 2015. Punching the VIN up on Google brings up this site ONLY. Here it is again for sale with VERY little info. Just 4 or 5 lines and no important pictures. I didn't save pad pictures, but it seems there were some cause it's talked about. Danny

As far as I know KD1 was smog delete only for cars from Norwood and destined for GM Canada Delivery and Sale..
I had an early '68 model Z that had GM Documentation and had KD1 on the options list - "Air Injection Delete for Canadian Market vehicles"..

That KD1 description is not from GM, but from Vintage Vehicle Services.
For some reason, many Canadian cars don't have KD1 listed in the documentation but should.
