Title: 700R4/L48
Post by: bc69 on July 06, 2015, 06:16:05 PM
Wanting to change my 69 L48/TH350 air car to a 700R4 . Running a 3:08 rear on stock 14" wheels and tires.
Opinions and details would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance. Maybe. Lol

I've suggested this a few times; use the 200 4R, from 86-87 Monte SS if you can find one. They can be beefed up to handle a lot of power, or work fine for a stock L48 300 horse. Lock up converter to boot.

Benefits - overall length just like the TH350, same driveshaft yoke and length. Downside - dual Chevy/B-O-P bellhousing, but you can cut off the extra ears if you want to get sneaky. A good friend of mine has one behind his 400 Firechicken, and has nearly 10K miles so far with no difficulties at all, I've got one stashed for my L48 now.
Cheap cores at the yards - $25-75.00, generally.

Just my opinion -

Steve

Thanks Steve for you feedback. I have got my hands on a good 700 is the thing. So if I don't incure ore problems than not, would like to use it. The 200's are getting hard to find in my area.

Read this thread if you haven't already - also gives you a couple of good reasons not to use the 700 -
