Title: 69 RS headlamp washer
Post by: lemarin on May 12, 2015, 01:28:09 PM
I'm buying a 69 RS camaro fully restored. I have'nt seen the car myself, just on picture. So far, the car is a complete matching number, according to an AAG certificate, and also using the decode tool.

The current seller who restored the car said that there's no headlamp washers on the car. Is there any real RS without headlamp washers ?

My father had a very similar RS back in 1969, and he had the headlamp washer installed on his.

Any idea ?

I *thought* the RS versions in '69 all had the headlight squirters?.. mine does...   sounds like the one you have was *built*.. or at least has had the front assembly replaced? ... ie.   with the wrong or incomplete parts?

RS should have the headlight washers. Also, the extra solenoid on the wiper motor to operate the system.

Here's a picture of the selenoïd/pump for the headlamp washer:

And here's a picture of the one I'm buying:

For me it seems to be the same....maybe only the nozzle and the lines have been cancelled ?

If the solenoid is there and working, when you depress the button for windshield washer fluid, the headlamp washer nozzle solenoid will pump the fluid to where ever the hose which is attached to it and originally went to the nozzles ends. Is the solenoid wiring disconnected?

lemarin, what motor is in the yellow car? they sure used a lot of aftermarket parts for a numbers car. Did you get a guarantee all number match?

Engine is a 350 ci /255 hp LM1. It has been restored in 2007, and has an AAG certificate. The tranny is a 3 speed, TH-350.

The term 'restored' is one of the most misused terms in the automotive hobby.   In this forum, most of us subscribe to the word meaning something similar to this:

RESTORED.   meaning the car's parts, function, finishes, etc have been redone as closely to the processes and parts used in the factory as closely as possible.
Visibly your car is not 'restored' by this definition, but perhaps has been 'rebuilt' using chrome and aftermarket parts.  Perhaps the function and the major components (engine block, transmission, rear, etc) ARE the parts the car came from the factory with?  Some people call it 'numbers matching' if the stamped codes on the engine are correct for the car and year, but in this forum, we generally refer to ALL the parts on the car that carry numbers from the factory.

I know especially the engine, has a lot of "chromed" aftermarket parts, I'll probably change them all to original component through the years.

Someone with an early 68 would love to have that door glass out of that car unless its just one of those aftermarket stickers they make nowadays..  By the price they are asking they are thinking its still 2007.  Hopefully you got it for a lot less than the asking price..  Or maybe this is the start of another upswing for these cars..??..  Looks like a nice solid car.  Congrats

If you bought an RS optioned Camaro in '69, it came equipped with the headlight washing system. There were maybe 300+ non-RS cars ordered with the CE1 washer option.

Same washers also came on hideaway headlight Impalas/Caprices in '69, and was either optional or came as standard on '69 Vettes (you Vette guys can chime in on that). Actually quite a few of them made; a lot of them destroyed, removed, and neglected over the years.

Impala Bob's has reproduced them for several years and is probably the source for several of the Camaro catalog houses. Restoring/rebuilding or replacing the system is a lot easier nowadays than it was 25 years ago when I started trying to reproduce them (and cheaper !).

Regards,
Steve

I negociate a bit the price, but I know it's pricey for a regular RS (not a SS396 or Z28). It's even worst when I start thinking about the rate exchange between US/Can dollar to bring the car to canada. But for me, this is a special model, RS Daytona Yellow with 350 auto. My father had the same car, and for me the value is more than a Z28.

By the way the seller just wrote me down that the Protect-o-plate is included with car. He just realized that when he prepared the car for the transport. I believe it can add some value to a real matching number LM-1 RS.
