I'm looking to buy a 69 RS/SS 396/350 hp car. The car is really nice but will need some work to be perfect. I've looked all over the car and something just feels weird about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I drop some cash on a fake. Below is the info and I will attach a pic of the vin by the oil filter. Thanks Guys!!
VIN 124379N679517
Trim Tag
69 12437 NOR110574
727 72 E
08E X22
Front Pad on Block
T0715JI
Casting on Rear
3955272

Post a photo of the engine pad stamp.

Only Pic I have of it

Tag looks repro to me. I'd keep looking.

I question the the fact this late car, August E, should have a C before the JI = CJI. Would a 272 block be used that late? Should it be a 854 (402) block? Plus, VIN partial seems too well (deep) stamped and too easy to read. Just my 2c.
-
I agree with the block stamp, that looks like the easiest one to read that I have seen thus far, almost to good.

Thanks guys it seemed too nice and made up to me. The guy has it all mocked up to look really nice but that's it, doesn't run or even have front springs installed. He claimed it was all original sheet metal, but could tell it had qtrs, trunk and even a tail panel installed. I asked him if I could remove the back up lights to see the original tail panel cut outs but he would let me. Here is the link http://cleveland.craigslist.org/ctd/4949767386.html. I searched google last night and all he does it mock up the cars to look good them sell them. He was a really nice guy but I'm looking for a few really nice 67-69 Z28's or RS/SS 396 cars.
-
a few? I am guessing by your screen name you have a orange Z/28 already? what year ? pics?
-
Same guy had a Blue (LeMans) dressed the same (SS/RS) about 6 mos. ago. Always says cars came out of a museum.

LOL I have now a 70 Z28 that is Citrus Green. I sold my 69 X33D80 Lemans Blue to my Brother. I kick myself everyday, but at least I get to see him spend the money. It is getting a complete restore now. Here is a pic of the 70. Yes I want to find a 67-69 the style is growing more on me!!

Very good looking second Gen. I believe there are a handful of guys on here with nice second gen cars as well. A few of them have 70 Z cars.
-
Thanks I have had the car a quite a few yrs. Its completely original but tires, battery, and headers. I see you are looking for a set of rear spiral shocks my brother has the ones off his Z that are original let check the numbers on them.

Non-original RS backup light holes do not indicate it wasn't an RS. My real Z/28-RS had the rear body panel replaced as did many real RS cars.
-
Correct but he was claiming that it was all original sheet metal. That's why I wanted to remove the back up lights. My brother 69 Z still has the original tail panel so I had an idea what it would look like. He also didn't have the headlight switch or any of the RS parts other that a grill that looked new.
-
I have seen his cars on eBay also and always wondered why they look good but engines setting in car and not finished. If I remeber right he's in NE corner of state. Snow belt?? I try not to go that far north!
Nice 70!

I sent you a PM.

Heres the tag that was on it in 2003. Nuff said.
-
If this is indeed a fake tag and the car is being represented as something it's not, shouldn't this guy be reported? That would be a fraudulent sale, and from what I'm reading here this guy has done this several times. There are (or were??) laws about this stuff....
Not questioning you guys at all, I'm just wondering how he gets away with this and still has 100% positive feedback, or why he's not locked up in the clink.

Post removed. Was posted in the wrong thread. Sorry.
-
The repro tag is one of the better ones I have seen. Would have fooled me!
-
Glad you guys were able to help me with this. Hopefully it saves someone from making a costly mistake.
-
That guy sells a lot of Camaro's. He likes to photograph them at that summer resort area, Geneva on the Lake OH.
Looks like he found the HDR button on the camera!

Nice 70Z. Glad to hear it is mostly original.
-
Just for fun... I'd go to pull the back up light housings and see if he gets antsy...

Somebody over at Yenko.net is now asking questions about this car if anyone wants to chime in

Outside of it maybe having a trim tag from a former life lol.... Seems to me like maybe the seller is sending out a feeler to see what holes "the community" will shoot through it, so he can fix it. Two obvious ones that aren't easy to fix, and im not telling or maybe we should just lay it all out there and cost him a few thousand to correct.... well, in short, avoid....
