Title: Clutch Return Spring Installation with Headers in '69 Camaro Z/28
Post by: jmcbeth on November 08, 2006, 01:38:42 AM
The normal clutch return spring hooks between the clutch fork and the left engine mount. With headers, however, the straight line path between these two points is obstructed by the headers. I've seen a couple of solutions that don't work well. One was to run the spring between the header pipes. Every time the clutch pedal was pressed, the spring scraped against the headers. Does anyone know of an elegant way to solve this problem?

I reversed the clutch spring and the extension rod... then looked for a direct route where it would not rattle against the header... I will see if I can take a photo of where I ran the rod and spring...

Firstgenaddict,

Thanks for the clever solution. A picture would be great.

Here is one from the bottom of the car looking at the clutch spring...

Here is another taken from about where a power steering pump would be...

I made a little bracket out of flat bar and used the motor mount bolt to hang the bracket. I drilled a 1/8" hole on the end. the spring was moved doen enough to clear the headers. I have Thorley Tri-Y's. I aslo have the backdrive working.
