Title: 67 REAR ANTENNA OPTION
Post by: Ron C. on November 04, 2006, 12:32:26 AM
does anyone know if a rear mounted antenna will interfere with a rear spoiler on a 67? also is there a template for drilling a rear mount antenna hole? my 67 has the rear antenna option but I never could bring myself to drilling a hole in a new GM quarterpanel. So now I would like to install the antenna only if it doesnt interfere with the spoiler.

my car has a factory rear antenna, and my spoiler hits it, I don't think you could get both options from the factory.

Even with the antenna all the way down?can you email me a pic of the location of your antenna and maybe measure the location? Thanks Ron.

No 67's came with a rear spoiler from the factory... 68 and 69 could not have the rear ant with rear spoiler, the spoiler will hit the ant.

just an observation; although you could not get a first gen camaro with a spoiler and a rear antenna, even the promo picture for the 1969 pace car shows the two together. here is a photo link. i hope it works.

Thats interesting, maybe the antenna must be retracted to open trunk?

the 1969 camaro assembly manual shows the mounting location for both front and rear antennas. they are on pages 442 and 443. upc u63 and u73. ricks first gen has the templates in their catalog under body & antenna templates.

Thanks for the info on the template, I will look into getting a new trunklid and eliminate the spoiler :(

Wise decision... The "design problem" is with the spoiler...

Phil thanks for the thred, the last post was mine in the thred and is a pic of my 67Z with the spoiler and without the rear antenna installed.i just couldnt get up enough nerve to drill a hole in a new gm quarterpanel LOL.But now that i have the car back i want to correctly re restore the car and the spoiler is comeing off and the antenna which is denoted on the trim tag is going on.

69RSZ,

Whoops!  I just caught on to the fact that you are typing your responses within the quote blocks.  My mistake!  I should have read it closer.

At any rate, my 68 has a rear antenna but no spoiler.  I looked at the holes under the trunk lid to see how a spoiler would line up.  It's awfully close.

Sorry my mistake,I hate computers ;D Well my decision was quick, and being the trim tag says rear antenna well the spoiler has got to go :( Thanks for your advise and info everyone. Dealer installed spoiler doesnt beat the trim tag!!

I have a 67 with a rear spoiler and rear antenna and the spoiler does not hit the ant. when the trunk is opened. I also owned a 67 in 1967. Although I did not have a spoiler, I did have the rear antenna. They both angled away (like + camber) from the body. This angle is determined by the fitting that attached to the quarter panel. I have seen a template in some reference literature that shows where the rear antenna should go.... Dan

Dan,do you have a pic of the trunk open with the antenna? im curious as to how close it comes to the antenna if it doesnt hit.

This is an observation and it's your preference to put on a rear spoiler if you choose to do so but remember NO 1967 Camaros came from the factory with rear spoilers.
To drill into a GM quarter is one thing but if you have your original rare one year only deck lid and want a rear spoiler, use a repop deck lid and save your original to replace later on.

Just a suggestion.

Ok one more question on this topic, has anyone used or seen the Ricks first gen template for drilling the rear antenna hole? Is it correct? I have it but im just wondering if anyone else has used it or compared it to a car with an original rear antenna?
