There's lots to like, but .. he says it has 'a 302', rather than the original 302, whereas he makes strong 'original' statements on several other parts.  I'm guessing it doesn't have the original engine...?

Yeah, I noticed that careful wording also. I think you are right, probably not the original 302.

VIN: 124378L332229

Seller states in the listing... "This car was built the first week of February, 1968 in the Los Angeles, California assembly plant."

I wonder if he meant the first week of March with that VIN and the Z/28 fender emblems.  ???

Good guess, Gary!  Looks like it is a donor 302 (V0417MO) from 124378L338770...

I cannot understand why real cars don't bring better money when you could not build a clone for $33,600.

That car is actually close enough to me where I might go inspect it.

Doing the paint all correct and minor body work won't be cheap for most people, but I could do some of it and get the rest done professionally for a reasonable price.

I looked but I don't see a pic of the POP.  Does someone have it that could send it to me?

This is a steal!!.....hell, I have more than that in my 327 regular ol' sports coupe. Best to whoever gets this car, #'s matching or not.
I'll trade you my #'s matching 68!

It is Back on eBay.. I did some math. Will need $18,000 in parts and labor to bring it back to stock. And it will STILL have a NOM. They want $80,000, I would consider $42,000. ... Danny

It looks pretty correct (except for the cowl hood...but it looks great so it gets to stay)...very nice original interior and mostly correct 302...is it a correct "MO" code?  Nice to see the air pump is still with it.  I think it is worth more than $42K with Jerry MacNeish's cert...maybe low $50k range?

If it could be had for that figure, it would probably be more fun to leave it alone and just run the hell out of it!

IMO any real Z that does not need paint and body work and is a running car should be worth 50 to 60K. Add the JM papers and the parts that are original maybe more.

Well the Papers contain Pages of Corrective actions required to "FIX" or Improve this cars position.
30k + 12 for nice Paint.  (to me is accurate)
This vehicle is for Sale and subject to positive examination: Simple things Like the Seat Hinge Cover, & way more Incorrect parts abound and how can we assume the EXPENSIVE things are in place (*I can't read Jerry Report)

Urgh Underbody & Silly SHot of floor mats are poor marketing. Listed on their web site for 79,995.00 asking.  I just think it (value) is not there,
Auction watch prediction MAX 37,750-46,500
Better examples have been seen on BAT & private sales such a Y.net

Good market now to sell but 68Z's (nice ones) were in the 60's and top out around 70K not too long ago. There is no way this car is worth anything they are asking as it has many things wrong and by Jerry's list possibly many expensive pieces missing. I'd call it a nice 68Z driver to enjoy.

I seriously would consider this car to be in the $40's, at the least.  I'm in the process of putting together a '68 Z28 tribute with the correct motor and most of the little 'things' that are need to make it appear to be one, and I can say for a fact, it AINT cheap! This car would be a bargain at $40K, and having a JM cert. is not too shabby.

Also, those 'smog' headers are quite the conversation piece. I've never come across those before- perhaps a California car?

Like I mentioned, I went through JM entire list and did the math. Now this is "IF" you want to have virtually NO aftermarket parts except misc. small stuff. The price is between 18 and 20K including labor. If you do it yourself it would be about 13K in parts. JUST the dated DF Rally wheels, trim rings, starter, fuel pump and coil will set ya back thousands!! Forget the spark plug wire holders or the engine lift hooks. It's just not worth 50K as is. Then ya have the paint etc. If you want to JUST drive it and burn them down the street, than 40K works. After all, it is a REAL '68 Z28. Or you can do like alot of people do and buy ENORMOUS amounts of aftermarket Chine parts. It's wide open with possibilities. I am looking at it from a mostly all original future. If ya buy it now for 50K and restore and paint it, it will THEN be a 80K car. And I don't care what anybody says... The NOM is an easy 20K or more value hit. It does help that this is an original MO 302. But there are SO many born with drivetrain cars out there to be had for less than this giant investment. Just say'in... Danny

SO,
The whole world saw it and it went to US $35,100.00[ 52 bids ]. OR, they received an offer for much more and ended the auction. Have to wait and see if they list it again. ... Danny

"Now this is "IF" you want to have virtually NO aftermarket parts except misc. small stuff. "  (Dannystarr)

These special limited availability parts can be "very demanding" to procure. Look at the Asking rates for 67/68 Dizzys over at Y.net.

Smog equipped Headers are kinda neat very Day 2 like.

I was close on end bid.   She will be back for sure! LoL

Going thru that list I noticed a possible error. JM states that the Ign.  coil should be a 298 but I'm sure it was a 293 - my '68 , built in June has the original 293 coil. I'm not sure if a marked '293' are available but the 298's are about  a buck and a half.

These dealers think they can just throw crazy numbers up and get a buyer - they have been driving up the prices to a point where you have to print
money to get a classic these days. This Z is no where near worth what they want - they see a JM paper but don't read the fine print.

My friend's 1968 Z28 had the smog fittings on the headers.  With a M21 transmission, 4.10 gears, F60-15 Goodyear tires fitted to American 5-spoke aluminum rims and traction bars, his best time in the quarter mile was 13.98 seconds @ 103 mph.

In the end it is still a car without it's orig. engine or documentation to prove what it's claimed to be.

There was 2 part  article by Super Stock mag in '68 that test dragged a z28 that was owned by Jerry Stahl of Stahl Headers - with stock exhaust it  managed a best of 13.68 @ 106.5mph - just a bit of tweaking with jetting and keeping the car cool by using a makeshift ice bucket.

The next chapter,  with headers, tires,  minor machine and still under NHRA stock rules - it ran 12.31 @115

Of course with the right driver and the right engine pro like what Jerry MacNeish used for his '67,  it can run low 10's all day in NHRA D/Stock

"April 30, 2010, Atco, NJ, Jerry MacNeish sets the new NHRA D/Stock
National Record and runs an amazing 10.45 @ 126.21. Now NHRA certified
as the fastest 302 Z28 Stock Eliminator Camaro in the country!"

I just read the report on that car and its review of the rear end is puzzling to me on why someone would have ordered it to begin with. Maybe open rear ends were better than positraction in road racing is the only idea I have for why the original owner (or dealer specified) choice that was made. None the less its a nice car.  Props to the previous owner doing the work to locate and install a real MO engine.  That was likely not easy.
