I have a 68 Camaro Z/28 that was built 04A. I have one original wheel that is a 15x6 with a upside down DF code. Is this correct? Original tire is still on it so I can't check the dates on the inside of the rim.

No date code at the valve stem ? '68's were DF 15X6, with a narrow trim ring compared to the '69's, very noticeable.
Mine have the date codes stamped to either side of the valve stem opening, near the DF -

I had a 2-68 dated DF rally wheel, the only date being inside the rim where it was covered up by the tire. The center section of the wheel had GM and K1 in the lug nut area and the rim had just the DF stamp by the valve stem hole, like you would see on a '67 dated DF wheel. The DF stamp faced in toward the center of the wheel rather than outward like you see on most other '68 DF wheels. This sounds like the kind of wheel you have on your car and the 2-68 date would be reasonable for an 04A built car.

Thank you all for your response. To Jon Mello, that's exactly what I have, I guess I'll have to break down the tire to get the inside dates. To Janobyte, even though our Z's were built 4 weeks apart, my DF's could have been from the last 'batch' of 07's and yours from the next 'batch' of rims produced. I believe your rims were the first batch to have the date stamped on the outside and the DF stamp facing 'inward'. I think I read some where that GM was putting out 600 Camaros a day???
-
Could very well be, I do possess the 5 born with. All stamped the same.

My 02E, built March 13th has 12-67 stamped inside the tire area. Very pronounced DF stamping. Had one original. found 4 more before the prices got stupid. Also earlier...Joe

912 per day from Norwood, and 280 per day from Van Nuys = 1192 per day.

John Z, Do you know what percentage of teh Horwood cars were z/28's?

There are several versions of DF wheels during the 68 model year so it depends on when your car was built to determine what wheel is correct. Most early cars will have the large Font DF with no date like the 67 Z/28's. The earliest dated wheel I have ever noted around the valve stem was 12-1-67 with the small size DF font but oddly enough the next dated wheel around the valve stem starts in March68. DF wheels in between those dates had the large DF font and only a date on the inside of the hub as Mitchell above probably has. Even large font DF wheels differ on other stampings as a change in stamping took place in Feb68 so probably Mitchell's large font DF wheel is different then early 67 or 68 Z large font DF wheels. Note also how the early dated small font DF wheel has the K1 and the year (7) above and below each other.

Original valve stem length and micro winged weights used. Note the micro wheel weight is on an original 68Z spare tire dated Jan68 that never hit the road (Lg font DF).

Here are some photos of some DF wheels I had that were for an early production '68 Z. These are dated 10-67 but on the inside of the wheel the stamping has the 10 to denote October however no 67 is stamped for the year. This is not unusual.

Here are some detail shots of a January '67 "DF" wheel. This is from an 03B NOR Z-28. These early wheels do not have the DF stamp on them. It's just left blank next to the valve stem hole, however the offset is the same as any DF wheel and it is naturally a 15x6 wheel. The stamp on the inside has "1" for the month of January and there is no year denoted. It is believed that the December '66 Z-28 rally wheel also has no DF stamp and just has the number "12" inside, to denote the month.

Are these above not Sept of '69? Isn't K19 for 1969? What am I missing?... Danny
-
Yes, they seem to be Sept of '69 dated wheels. perhaps service replacements? There were some full size Chevys (Impalas as I recall) that also used a 15x6 ralley wheel in some years... I'm thinking '69 or '70? but I've no idea if those may have been DF offset codes also??? I'm sure the '69 date is why those wheels are not priced much higher...

Yes, they are service replacement wheels made in 1969. By 1979 they still had service replacements but the part # and wheel stamping had changed (not DF). Even the way the wheel was made had changed.

The '69 and '70 full size passenger car 15x6 rally wheels are stamped "YS" and have a different offset from the "DF" rally wheels.

What are other known dates for the early 67 Large DF Rims? I've seen the following
3 67
10 67
12 67
