I wonder if any CRGers know anything about the whereabouts of the traded in car at the bottom of the yellow paper work? 68 Camaro N355597?

that Z/28 had a blueprinted engine with 140 cam, varicam timing gear and headers. I always sold my used cars thru the dealer so I would get the state sales tax credit on my next car. a local guy in Donegal pa. bought it from me.

Hey Clem are you surprised after all the guy did to put the car back to day one and document it that he is selling it?

I'm surprised he's selling it... I was hoping to see it at the Nationals this year...

I like everything about that car, and the story behind it. Current bid is  about 2 years worth of kid's tuition, so I'm out. ( should be higher IMO)

This is one I'd like to keep an eye on the next few years...would look so good next to the Ash Gold 68...maybe for my wife, like the original intent.

That's the only *restored* Z28 I'd have an interest in also, Jano... I'd LOVE it sitting next to my HO '69... :)

Let's see..  I have a '90 ZR1 (27K miles) and a few other cars I'd part with to have that one.. :)

Wow! I like it! Would like to have seen the trim tag though. To all the Camaro gurus out there, could you get any color you wanted to with the special order paint? I though a lot of these cars came in just primer. The Carolina blue Z/28 is the only real oddball special order paint car I know about.

You are correct, sir! On Malibu SS but not on El Camino. I'm not saying it is a bad color on Camaros. I just think it looked best on larger bodied models....
BTW, did Santa leave you enough cash to buy the Z you wanted? ;D

I believe that primer is not water proof so they could rust. corvettes were shipped in primer because the bodies are fiberglass

Thanks Kurt. I wasn't sure on the primer thing. Looked in the CRG site but I was looking under the paint section. This is a great site and resource here. I'm on here almost daily reading up on stuff. Thanks to all the CRG members and forum contributors for all there knowledge and expertise!

Well..  someone had the cash, and I think they probably got a good deal on a great and rare car...  :)
It surprises me that the owner didn't have his reserve higher, and/or wait til Spring if he didn't get his money...

I sure would have thought that car would have went for more than that. Of course one never really knows how those deals on Ebay really turn out and if the sale is real or not.

And spring semester is due. My #1 priority is my son coming out of school debt free. With a four year degree costing around 100K ,at the low end, we're on the same page. Not to say he might not be in the position to buy it back in a few years. Maybe for less.

Is it just me or was the selling price pretty low on this car. I followed the post of the restoration and all the work put into the car. It makes me wonder if the car would of been a different (desirable) color would it have gone for more. Just a thought.
Title: Re: in case anyone is interested
Post by: 69Z28-RS on January 01, 2015, 04:33:16 PM
I also thought it was low, for such a car - and knowing the cost of restoration.   As far as I could tell (based on online photos and without seeing the actual car), the restoration quality was very good.

The color was possibly a 'con' for some buyers (although I considered it a PRO due to the story behind the special color - and I personally sat and listened to Clem tell several of us the story about this '69 Z28 several years ago at Corvettes at Carlisle - as he, JohnZ, and I were sharing '69 Z28 stories).   Another potential reason for a lower selling price is the *season* (wintertime at Christmas), and the fact that I believe the car has never been shown at a large Camaro show, and probably few people outside CRG and TC know about the story.

That brings up another point. How many people would buy a car because it was a rare color verses a desirable color they liked. Personally if I'm going to spend that kind of money on a car and have to look at it all the time I want a color I like. JMO

I thought maybe a big money guy would buy this Z to put in his "collection" so he could say " I have a rare, one of one car."  I agree with Gary, it sure seems to be a very nice, quality restoration. Again, for that price I wouldn't be surprised if it was a no sale. A couple of years ago I was seriously looking at a Cortez Silver X33 project on Ebay. I even went to Kansas City to look at the car. A couple of days later I called the guy to see if he would take an offer off Ebay and he said he was wanting a little more than my offer. He told me there was a local guy that was top bid at the time that was wanting the car badly. A couple of days later I watched it "sell" for about 7K more than my offer. I thought, well he did the right thing in letting the auction run out. About a year later the same seller that I had talked with had the car on Ebay again, this time however it was fully restored. He had either not sold the car and he or a buddy was the top bid or maybe the deal simply did not go through, I had asked him to call me if his Ebay deal fell through and I never heard back from him.
Maybe Clem can confirm the sale.

There are a handful of guys on here that liked looking at it, and wished it was in their garage. Now I did not hear them say "I wish I had that car instead of my current Camaro".

I wonder if the original color controversy had anything to do with the low price.
Title: Re: in case anyone is interested
Post by: 69Z28-RS on January 01, 2015, 09:04:44 PM
I don't see that there was any controversy at all once all information was in...   we have the *original owner* attesting to what the car was, plus original paperwork all documenting the 'special color'.   The only 'controversy' was in the minds of people, totally unaware of the cars background, trying to figure out an original color for '- -' car while looking at a  run down 45 yr old car..
Title: Re: in case anyone is interested
Post by: HOT3O2 on January 01, 2015, 09:40:55 PM
The paint code would of been ( - B ) , Not (- -).
Title: Re: in case anyone is interested
Post by: 69Z28-RS on January 01, 2015, 09:49:05 PM
I was using the '-' generically...  I don't remember even looking at the plate.   So what does the car have?   - B ?  or --? or ??
Clem did pay for the vinyl top...   :)     but the trim tag wasn't pictured in the ebay ad.

I haven't seen the tag either. I have a special paint car too with a black vinyl top and that's what my tag says.

Apples and oranges. My Z has been in my life almost 40 years ( in May of 2016). History with my Father, wife, kids...last link to my past as a child. And it'll see some more track time, some more memories to be made. And one day when I'm an old man, the "born with" exhaust will go back on, and It'll haul my golf clubs. So lets get it straight, there is no other Camaro I'd "wish" to have instead, just a few I'd like to have in addition to.

Not the big block 8 second tube chassis car I want, but a very well done Camaro with some history. Too bad it wasn't wearing a popular color....lots of junk out there does. I'm sure I'll see it  on the block again, cash not tight ,I'm bidding. ( hopefully after the 67/68 BBC tube chassis car!)

The six figure Z's are no more. $60k for a nice restored car is top of the market regardless of what people are asking

I think it is a bit higher than that, if you factor original docs or originality. Nice original cars seem to have eclipsed the restored cars Z or otherwise.

For the archives (because the ebay ad will disappear) Winning bid was $59,100

Clem, you think that was all the money for your old car then?

Interesting to see what the market says later this month in Scottsdale.

Clem is a little light on value IMHO. 69 Z's have appreciated approximately 18% compared to 2013 and top cars are bringing significantly more than $59,100. I have a hard time believing it was actually sold at that value and if it was, it was a steal.

Then why didn't it get it? People wanting this type of car have the money at the drop of a dime. It doesn't matter the time of the year. If the right car becomes available there going to want it. I just think the color turned them off. This is JMO

Rick,  Yes I have to agree that the color most likely hurt this Z.  It takes a particular buyer for this (pastel) color, which IMO there just isn't.  Just like everything else.. No demand = No $$.   We know Clem's wife even hated the color.  The pastel color doesn't scream "Muscle" for a Z/28 let alone any other car.  I don't think I've ever seen a Mary K (Cosmetic) car blow by me and I sat there saying.. Wow ! that's bad a$$...lol.

I was really referring that $60K ($59,100) for a Z that screams muscle with loads of doc's would of drawn more...IMHO
