Title: exhaust manifold torque small block
Post by: BillOhio on December 10, 2014, 08:14:20 PM
I have searched and looked in assembly manual and not much luck. I did see center bolts 35 outside bolts 15. Is this without gaskets? With gaskets any different? I am using french locks and no gaskets.

My 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual (ST 130-68) says 20 lb. ft. for the exhaust manifold bolts (3/8 - 16).  Same specification for all V8s (small & big blocks).

I think I've seen in a Haynes manual that the readings should be.....20 ft/lbs on the outer and 30 ft/lbs on the inner.

Chilton says that too.  I would not change the torque when using gaskets.

I would not use gaskets, the General didn't.

I am going to try no gaskets. One less thing to go wrong!

And if you expect to be able to remove the exhaust manifold bolts at some later date, use a film of hi-temp anti-sieze on them when you install them.  :)

I use hi-temp anti-sieze on every exhaust clamp and bolt on every car I own. Makes working on the exhaust so much easier later.
