I own a 1969 Z/28 it is a 01C date code I have tried to find a set of original YH wheels for a long time and can never seem to find a late (dec) or early (jan) date . Should this car have had AD wheels or are these just very hard to find .. THANKZ JIM
-
Colvin lists AD for "early model" 69s. YH replaced AD, and he dates YH through a manufacter's document (Kesley - Hayes) as of 02/20/69. But then says he has never documented it through an orignal car. So, if you are showing it, it may depend on how knowledgeable the judges are...

I have a early produced 1969 z/28. VIN #124379L505424, 10D build date.
I have four AD I believe that are dated k18 9 20 AD (september 20, 1968).
And one YH wheel dated k10 5 18 YH (May 18 1970) (I'm not sure about this date).
Being the 2nd owner of the car, I believe that the previous owner who informed me
that he was road racing the car, had an accident, and had one wheel replaced. I dont see any
signs of an accident on the vehicle yet.
See pictures.

So the YH wheel was not produced till febuary of 1969 and my car would have had AD wheels from the factory ?? PS does anyony know where a set of DEC or early JAN wheels could be bought THANKS JIM
-
That's incorrect.
YH started at the end of Dec.
Those wheels are out there, I have a set for my car.....

Jim,
I certainly yield to Kurt! But I guess that proves my point on the Colvin reference and how stuff gets judged. BTW, I was quoting from page 321, footnote 4.

CBTN has a few errors in it, not many. And this isn't really an error but a wheel documentation issue.

My Oct 68 built Z is missing the original AD Wheels; I figure finding a set to match my car would be like finding a needle in a haystack!
They would probably be manuf in Sept 68, and on or about the same date. I currently have a set of 14x7 YJ wheels on the car, and 4 of the 5 have identical manuf date. (spare was different) Story is wheels were traded by original owner with another Camaro owner. Makes sense.

Where do your rear stripes start? Are they similiar or different than mine. Mine start about 5 inches
down from the rear glass. As though it had a vinyl top.
-
My car has Vinyl Top, and has been re-painted once, so I don't think I'm a good reference.

Re: Wheels..... I know it sounds crazy, but I have a 67 SS/RS 350 and am looking for 5, FC code, 14x6 steel wheels. I have drum brakes that work fine and wish to keep it stock. Any leads on where I might locate such type wheels?? Dan (owned an identical 67 in 67). Thanks

Bringing this one back from the dead. I came across a 2 15 K 1 9 AD wheel. I would have thought such a late date would be a YH code. Would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks, Tony
