Car is Cortez Silver.
The grille had the original Cortez Silver on the surround.
The ones I removed, (believed to be the originals) are Argent without trim.
I have looked at more photos than I care to think about plus through Jerry's book and as best I can tell no one I trust has a published answer to the question... it's not in the Grille Report or in Jerry's book and the photos at best are inconclusive.
I see some which have a argent bezel and some with a black bezel and chrome trim.
I never thought this would be an issue... however which ones would be on a X66?
-
My X66 came with black bezels without chrome trim. I don't know if they are original since I bought my car in 1988 almost 20 years after it was original. My car has had many repaints but is originally Olympic Gold. The grille is black with black bezels.

http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#1969Grille It should be a black grill with black bezels for a 69 SS. Since it is an X66 (no style trim), they would NOT have the chrome ring on the bezels. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes

ALL 69 SS's have bright headlamp trimmed bezels.

This report states that the X55 and X66 carry the same features in regards to headlamp bezels...
My P&A has a note for the bezels (painted)
Does anyone have a part number for black bezels or were they all manufactured in Grey and paint as required?
-
I dont think I have seen any NOS black bezels. I could be wrong but seems like they were all painted.
-
The Style Trim bezels have a chrome trim piece and a little black paint on the front. The sides are painted silver but I am guessing that the sides could be different on a true black grill car. It only makes sense that it would be that way. Black grill cars would look odd with silver painted bezels.

I came across a set of boxed NOS black bezels with the chrome trim recently, can't recall the part numbers but think I took some photos.... Will post if I find them.

Definitely post pics. That would be the first ones I have seen. Are they molded in black or painted?

Still looking, sure I have a couple of pictures..... I was seeking a spare RH argent silver bezel with the trim at the time, so didn't pay them too much notice, other than curiosity because I'd never seen black bezels close-up before (except already on a car). But my recollection was that they were black on the inside as well as the outside, so maybe molded in black rather than painted? I should've bought them.......

No wonder there is confusion over painted or not, found this set on kijiji and they appear to be silver on the inside......

Alright guys, here you go. My original 69 X66 headlight bezels. These have never been touched up etc. They're painted black, but it's hard to tell if it's over gray. There's what looks like a yellowish plastic, but it's tough to say whether there is gray primer over yellow plastic. The more I look at it, the more it looks like the plastic is gray molded. I see p/n BC-3935928 molded into the plastic.

yet another X11 SS Nov 68 Nor original bezels.3935927-928 Painted. Should be same as X66. Has chrome rings w/black accents.
-
Hopefully this will help -
Please see the attached pics - I dredged the bezels out of storage this morning. Standard bezels carry a different part number on the box than the chrome ring bezels, but all three have the same casting numbers on the reverse (see all three pics of the part numbers). I have pristine (uncleaned, unrestored) R&L black bezels, chrome ring, for my L78 Cortez 12A SS - plus NOS chromed Argent, and Argent/not chromed bezels for the X77. Unfortunately, the black ones are used, but definitely gonna go back on the car.

Well I cannot find a photo of the NOS black bezels that I came across recently, but I did just spot a single black one for sale on ebay, this looks like the pair I saw insofar as both the inside and outside are black.
