Hey all,
Here again with another unique and confusing date. I was bouncing around and ran across two Delco Remy horns with odd dates. They show as a #289 dated 1C9 and #290 dated 2C9.
I thought these horns were dated as YR then MTH then Wk and since there's not 9 weeks in a month what are these ? Are these '71 & '72 and did Delco Remy change their stamping procedures after '69 ? Or are these '69's and the YR and WK are backwards ? and if that's the case could that of happened 1 week apart from one another.
Also I found an old thread over on Camaro.net from 2006. A gentleman there was listing his horn dates and also listed that he had a '69 dated 1C9.
Has anyone else ever heard of this happening or seen ? I posted a pic that shows the "1C9" date, a little hard to see.
Thanks for any input

Delco Remy dated 1C9. Interesting enough, I contacted Gary at The Horn Works. He stated they are a backwards date and he's seem them before. Didn't know that.

Your discussion and photos of the horns got me off my butt to go look at mine.. :) I removed them a couple of years ago, when disassembling the front clip for clean up, and didn't *see* any numbers, although they appeared to be original... so down to the basement I went, finally found the right box.. dug out the horns and with a little cleaning, identified mine as #289 (date 9H3), and #290 (date 9H3). I think that date would be 3 August 69 ; my car is an O9C (18Sep69)... I got photos also which be added to my already large photo file.. :)

Gary, Sounds like you have the correct dated horns as well to your 09C. :) The backwards date threw me off and they didn't appear to be repro's. As Kurt stated.. sounds like a new guy on the job or it was Friday afternoon close to quitting time..lol
Hey and BTW... at least you know where your horns are now..lol

My 06A Z28 has 9-B-4 ( "289" horn) and 2-C-9 ( "290" horn).
I have owned the car since 74, I thought the 290" might have been changed or a warranty deal, Im not so sure now.

rszmjt, From what I've been seeing, there were some original "289" and "290" with backwards stamps. Looks like your #290 "2 C 9" was stamped with the same set-up as mine. Mine also appear original to the rest of my car. So I'd say your all good :)

It seems to be a limited production time window.

Guys-
I know this thread is old, but I just came upon it while researching the horns on my 69z (05A build). I also have a #290 horn with a date code of "2C9". I was confused because the other horn (#289) has the date in the expected format: "9D1". It's good to know others have seen this as well.

My 04C Z has both horns (289 & 290) with 1 C 9 date stamps. Both original to the car.
